Does anyone know of a Fram or other oil filter that can be substitued for the Triumph filter for a 97 Tiger? I am getting a little tired of paying $12 plus postage for a filter, rather then $6/7 bucks for one at the local auto parts stores. Thanks!

Most filters are made by only one or two manufcturers, the only difference is the name on the can, ie Triumph.
If you change your oil regularly it is not critical that you use overpriced Triumph branded filters.

A few that will work are;

Mobil 1 P/N M1-108
Purolator Pure One P/N PL14612
NAPA Gold P/N 1365
WalMart Supertech P/N ST6607

There are many more if you are interested.

These are all car filters that share 20x1.5mm threads, 14psi by pass valve, anti-drain back valve, gasket diameter of appx. 2.3 inches and are about 2.5 inches long.

FRAM makes a bike specific model, PH6017A but I would reccomend against using it. Do a google search on FRAM filters, their quality is more than a little suspect.

I have been using the Mobil 1 M1-108 for the last year and a half. Autozone had a deal on them so I bought a 5 year supply!

Good luck.

I believe the filter mentioned by 03Tiger are spin-on type used on 99 and newer Tigers. Your 97 uses cartridge type filters such as Fram CH6012 and Emgo 10-20300. I know that Purolator and Wix also make these filters, but I don't recall the p/n's. I use the Emgo in my 98. Good hunting.

Try a Hi-Flo filter ... might be the H-401 .. about $5.

Oops! I guess I should have paid closer attention to the first post. Yes the filters I mentioned are spin on types for the 955 engines. Sorry about the confusion.

Thanks to everyone for their help. And 03 Tiger, no problem. If anyone is ever planning a trip to Alaska let me know and I'll help in anyway I can.
