Angry SMIDSY - Tiger down

Well - finally got clipped this morning, a**e-hole in a box pulled out of a stationary traffic queue into my lane (I wasn't filtering) nowhere to go, hit him broadside on the passenger side. He pulled in from an outside lane to the inside to save himself 5 seconds. Usual excuse, "sorry mate didnt see you." fortunately for him & probably me I had the bike between me & him at this point & the police turned up at the same time. I think that the driver was suitably "distressed" by the time I had finished my rant. His passenger had started to get out the car objecting to the tirade I was giving his pal but rapidly changed direction when told forcefully to "butt out." I think the sight of an angry Tiger owner in full rant mode was a bit too much for him. Cops were not interested as no injuries or serious damage, at least they ran a PNC check for me to make sure the guy was cosher.

Why do these people always assume that because they claim not to have seen you & then apologise that it makes it ok to nearly kill you.

Fortunately neither Tigger nor I seems to be too badly bruised, slight ache in my right wrist & a bit muddy from rolling on the road. Tigge, on first ispection seems to be ok other than the front fender has a small chunk missing just below where it attaches to the fork on one side & a couple of scrapes on the bar end & on the crash bar (if you dont have engine bars yet get them, Well done Touratech) still to have a closer look to assess if there is any other damage damage.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Rant over, made me feel better, thanks guys

You are right about the "I did not see you" routine. The last time I had an off the tosser had the nerve to ask me why I had not seen him. As he had pulled out of a side road into my path I not only saw him but 'felt' him as well as I was flung off the bike and skidded down the road on my back. I informed him to give me his details before I shook him warmly by the throat. Its good news that your bike (and you) had minimal damage.Even so I imagine a new mud guard will not be cheap and they are always disbelieving when they want to avoid going through their insurance and you tell them the price of the parts that need replacing.

Glad to hear that ypou seem OK but give it a day for the bruises to show and the stiffness to set in. From my experience your initial reaction can be down to adrenalin and the fact that the body takes 24 hours to tense up and this can take a good 2 weeks to clear.

As to the police thinking thats it's OK as no one was hurt to much. Well that attitude just pains me. As you say - could have killed you. The fact that they didn't was just chance. They were clearly driving without due care and attention and should be done for such. Cagers will not think that looking out for bikes is important until they get routinely done for not doing so.

My rant now over

Good point. BigD, how about making a formal complaint to that effect? Must be worth a go especially with two Police officers on hand.

Red face

Hi BigD, glad you're not too dented and that your Tigger isn't too badly hurt....the scrapes on the Toratech bars sand down and re-paint no problem....even I can do that!

I've had a few very near misses like this and all you seem to get (if anything) is a sheepish grin....as if it doesn't really matter. The police's attitude stinks though...but it's not unexpected.

Where was this...Glasgow?

Anyway, have as much of a rant as you like and put your feet up with a wee dram tonight!

Ken...

Glen-Tiger you are probably righ that the Touratechs will sand down and repaint. However the next donger than comes along and knocks someone off could claim that the re-sanded bars were weakened and not fit for function.

I would look into replacing then at cost to donger number one. After all that was what bigD had prior to incident and thats what she should have now. Also if the police are taking no further action, hitting them in the pocket is the best way to ensure that their mistake stays present in their mind.

Lil - Who is now on a mission

Telephone Line

Good to have you and Tigger a-ok. Well sort of.
BTW, what's a PNC?

My wife and I were rear ended by a Dodge 4x4 monster truck
in Ulvalde last year. That was my old Honda. Destroyed the back bumper and license plate but could still ride home. Pecker head was talking on a cell phone.
Earlier this year another accident almost occured with another truck. I flipped the driver (with the cell phone in her ear) off. She started chasing me. I stopped. and got off.
So she gets out (she has two kids in car seats in the front) and is just screaming at me still holding her cell phone in here hand.
Then she threw it at me. It missed, but I walked over and picked it up
and as I handed it back to here I said "You shouldn't throw this thing around". She yells at me "Why, it's mine"! To which I replied
"Because it cost you money"?
Here in the states maybe 75% of the cars have phones in their ear.
Major cause of accidents here.
Sorry to rant.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments Guys.

I have had another look at the bike since the blood pressure has gone down a bit & have seen the rest of the bits that have been scuffed & dinged.

I will indeed be making a claim for list of replacement items (plus shop time to fit).

1. New front mud guard.
2. New engine bars. Tiger Lilly is right, they were pristine before.
3. New mirror (only scuffed but previous comment applies)
4. New bar end (possibly new bars, bar end is bent to one side slightly but not effecting throttle).
5. New hand guard (only scuffed but previous comment applies)
5 Brake peddle pivot bolt (slightly bent)

I will call in to my local Triumph dealer tonight & get their opinion ( it will be in their interest since they will get the orders).

Check the thread in the hanger of the brake pedal pivot bolt.I dropped my Tiger at stand still and the weight of the bike bent the pivot bolt.As the bolt is harder than the hanger it fits in it strips the thread. New hanger from Triumph £30ish.
