HOLEY %$@#$$$!!! 18K Mile $ervice Co$t$ ???

All I can say is WOW.

I called my neighborhood Triumph dealer, they told me the 18000 mile service is $1000USD. ??? Is that normal? I was told originally that I needed it and that it was in the $400 range. This guy, in broken Spanglish, told me that the valve adjustment was a huge job, they charge for 6 hours at 90 bucks per, and he had his estimated bill up to $1000 with parts he expects I need.

Is this normal, this high, and is it a straight hour estimate?

I tried the other dealer in South Miami, they gave me a good reason to haul but outta there- $100 an hour- that was the minimum to hook up the computer to read fault codes when my engine light was on...

Any help is appreciated- thanks in advance.

Seems high to me. The Vegas dealer charges $225 for a valve job. Are you looking at new tires, chain and sprockets, cables, etc.?

Hang on, is the 18k mile service not a minor one, thought the valves were done at 12k and 24k? Someone able to confirm?

Just service-

They quoted $90 and hour, they gave me all this BS about the gasket being expensive, and that all the dealers near here have non-Triumph trained techs except them.

I can't see it, seriously, I just asked them for a fluid change of all fluids, and adjust what they can- I can handle the chain and sprockets and brakes.

I think its crazy- he said it was 1.5 hours just to get the tank and covers off.

Torquey,

Thanks for the flowsheet. That'll come in handy.

As for a grand for a service call, BS! May be worth it to go further down the road for your needs.

Awesome-

thanks Torquey-

Thats what I needed to see, I can ride this sucka a lot longer without stressing about the valves, I gotta check the thing out though- I posted before that I get 135 miles out of a tank of fuel- thats a full tank, down to the bottom of the red mark, and light on. Something isn't right with it.

I really started liking this bike- for I use it for, just quick and short trips around town, its really perfect for me. Its tall, and I like that, and its really like a scooter for me, easy to park, I jump the sidewalks and ride down stairs, and it takes everything. I paid $2500USD for it with 16000 miles, so I hope this service BS doesn't ruin it for me...

Thanks for all your help.

Other dealers prices-

I called up dealers in Spring Hill, Sarasota, Daytona Beach- I got $300, $360, and $600 respectfully. Thats a lot better, that was all for the valves and everything, which I may get checked anyway, just to be sure- the economy is horrendous. Its almost a toss up between the Tiger and my F350 4X4 diesel pick up truck.

I was quoted hourly rates of $60, $80, $90, and $105 from all these psychos. Its too much fluctuation, they need it more stabilized between dealers. Imagine me paying $1000 for service and the guy in Spring Hill getting his for a third. I can assume that can go up a bit, but how much in the end? For sure not 300%.

All I can say, is that the dealer in Ft Lauderdale, "Pure" Triumph, is nuts.

I know my dealer in St Pete charges $70 hour for labor. Just dropped my America off for 500 miles service. With no oil change it's going to cost me $35. The dealer in Tampa wants $200 for the same service, so go figure.

Also the service guys told me that it takes them about 30 mins max to pull the tank on my Tiger to give you an idea.

135 miles is just not right, I think my best ever attempt (cruising French roads two-up in 6th all day) gave me ~250miles to the tank, I used to expect the evil yellow eye at around 200-220, maybe at 190 if I had a blast that day... This was on the 900 though. Wish I got the same sort of mileage from the 1050....
