Hi all

Have at last signed on to the site. I bought my Tiger 955 last October trading in a BMW K1200GT for it as I have moved to France and needed a bike that met their bizzare 100bhp limit over here!! Yep I know it is 105bhp but I can register it over here.

Also had to sell my hayabusa which I had for 6 years and loved to bits but all had to go.

I have to say I throughly enjoy riding the Tiger, it is a bit tall but nowhere near as tall as the BMW GS adventure I tested, I am surprised at the easy smooth power it has.

The dealer was excellent and even took off my BM sat nav system and put it onto the Tiger!! It is an 05 model and had a few extras on it from Thunderbike, engine bars, radiator cover, scotoiler, etc, etc.

Anyway hope to get a few miles under the belt touring this year if I get time off from the renovation work!!!

One thing that did catch me out I have to admit was I did not realise it had a plastic fuel tank!!! thought they were illegal on a road bike, used to be when I started biking 27 years ago. Yep I bought a magnetic tank bag!!!!!

You see you do learn something new every day.

Welcome to the forum !

I was going to ask why you moved to France, but there's no need - Britain is sh!t ! with the dictatorship that is Labour. The motorist being raped of cash by the very people we voted into power. I feel better now I got that off my chest.

Whereabouts in France are you, and is your back garden big enough for a few tents ?? Hint, hint !!

Great place to ride a bike, and hope you enjoy the Tiger.

Regards,
Graeme.

Welcome to the site Nige. Good to hear you like the Tiger after having a 'busa. I opted for a quick-lock tankbag. It's so easy to use.

Welcome.
Story goes that it was lobbying by Triumph that got that law changed because they wanted, or needed, a plastic tank on the original Tiger.

Thanks for the messages and for Boney Malloney I have added a few details so you can see where I am in France now!!

Glad to see the plastic tank took someone else by surprise too!! It was actually the French guy who replaced the roof on our house who told me about the tank. He has a Triumph too and he tapped my tank and even with my limited French I understood 'plastique' to which I muttered the odd English swear word!!!

Still I am going to look at the bagster set-up, not sure how much it covers the tank. I had one on my Busa which was fantastic.

Hey Nige, welcome to the forum, Have a look at www.topsaddlery.com they are a french company and do a tank cover and bag at a much cheaper price than bagster. I´m down here in Madrid, Ididn´t know about the french hp restrictions, I´m sure there must be a way around it

Hi MadridTiger, thanks for the link I will take a look.

Regarding the HP issue here you can of course de-restrict the bike, in the case of say the new 1050 Tiger it is just a bracket that does not allow for 100% throttle!!! You can take it off BUT if you are involved in an accident and the Gendarme decide to check the bike over and find out it does not conform you are in the SH 1 T as you will have no insurance!

The cost to restrict the Busa was about 2000 euro and to do the BMW was almost impossible as it was a cylinder head change, etc, etc.

Believe me I looked into it all in great detail before moving here as I did not want the sell the BM or the hayabusa but to keep them legally was impossible, or should I say to register them here was impossible.

I did find a French motorcyle action group that I emailed before selling the bikes but because they were so slow in replying, 3 months, I sold the bikes and got the Tiger. I then received an email from them saying if I would be up for it they would use me as an example case and pay for my court costs, etc and take the case to court quoting that it is an infringment of the 'free movement of goods within the EU', typical way too late but that seems the norm here for all things official!

Anyway am happy with the Tiger, so far.
