Was told 4/28, then tracking number is sent. Will be here tomorrow and will give my report as well.

Gotta be better than stock. I think helmets have a lot to do with wind noise. Oh, that and my head is huge! lol Also am about 6'3"

I cannot imagine the Cee Bailey screens can be very stable at speed since they are so large and the mounting "base" of the fairing is so small. Seems to me I have read others say that the large Cee Bailey moves around at speed?

I got my MRA Vario fitted and it does not work for me - I still get buffet.

The only time the buffeting stopped is when I took my Tiger in for a service and I got a Honda CBF as a loan bike. I couldn't believe how quiet it was compared to the Tiger. No buffet at all.

Then I get my Tiger back from service and it's back to normal - massive buffet.

What the Feck were Triumph thinking about when they designed this bike ?? If I was designing a long distance tourer, I would have made sure rider comfort was top of the list of priorities. There would have been no buffet with a standard screen - shame on you Triumph !

Graeme,

You must be hyper critical with this buffeting thing.

The difference between the BMW 1200RT, which, probably sets the standard in terms of wind protection and my Tiger with MRA screen isn't that significant.

Naked bikes are always better in this respect, however, you wouldn't want to travel long distances at speed in poor conditions.

Have you tried different helmets? This can make a significant difference but can also introduce more noise.

Hi Dave,

It's just frustration (as usual !) showing through.

I'm a great believer in if you're going to to a job, do a bloody good job.

I am riding a long distance tourer and my hearing is being damaged and my head thrown about with the buffet and wind noise.

Earplugs ?? Yes I always wear them, so if my hearing is being damaged that's not a good job from Triumph.

I couldn't believe the difference on the naked CBF, so I don't believe my helmet is at fault, I know this as it's got a flush visor.

I didn't believe it at first, but I now believe the way to go is to not have a screen on the Tiger at all, as advised by a few on here. I'll try it and let you know.

Regards,
Graeme.

Vario test

Gave the MRA vario a bit of a test today. UP to 70-75mph now and then on the straights, trying different settings. Need to test some more but buffeting is considerably reduced. It's not gone by any means but it seems ok.

MRA Vario - Smoke screen installed - no road test yet

Here are pics of the screen installed. A little disappointed in a few things as shown below. Getting more skeptical after reading several posts, that's it's going to change anything for me. I will be patient though as I have a new helmet and Corbin seat on order that will likely change things.

It's here - oh crap, hope it's ok

Side by side with stock removed - No shipping damage

MRA installed - 2 of 3

continued

My view

Install detail - disappointed with the fit. Seemed to have to "flex" the fairing a bit to get the mounting holes to line up

Wing pivot mechanism detail

Windscreen edge detail - other disappointment. WHy couldn't they polish the edge?

This is what they give you to "finish" the edge. I have had this type of edging on the top of a windscreen and did not like it. Catches dirt, bugs etc. Makes it hard to clean. I will not install if I do not have to.
Anyone else had experience with it on or off?

What they want you to attach to the ends of the edging once you trim it to length. A little metal band you are to crimp on.

The edge of the wing is nicely finished

Ride report to follow. I didn't have time to ride today.

I tried the Vario, but I found if anything it was worse than the stock screen. Eventually found success with the Cee Bailey 2". It is a big old screen but I drove around Normandy in fairly high winds without a problem. When the wind was coming from the side I could see the screen flexing slightly. For prolonged motorway use I clip on a Touratech universal spoiler. Works for me
I have to admit helmet design has a lot to do with it. I use to use a BMW system 4. Found a massive difference when I changed to an Arai Astro-R. Forget flip front helmets they are very noisy no matter what the maufacturers tell you. Plus you get what you pay for when buying a helmet so buy the best you can afford.

P.S I'm 6'-4"

Starting to think the "heck" with it and stay with stock screen. The noise I can live with as I always wear ear plugs when riding any distance. The buffeting does start to bother my neck after awhile and that's the only real comfort issue I have with the bike. Starts with neck pain than goes into shoulder I banged up a couple of years ago with unplanned get off. Going to try the Cee B barn door (+8.5) I got from a site member, should be here on friday so I can give it a run this coming weekend.

I did ride a buddies bike that he had cut down the stock screen but the noise was horrible even with ear plugs.
