Hi all, just wondering if any one knows a good camp site in Dunkerque, France. My mate and I are off into Europe on our Tigers in June , no particular place/route, just 7 days on a bike. The only problem is we get into Dunkerque around 5pm on a Saturday, so we dont have much time to find one before it's too dark, all the other days we have the time to search and look around, any suggestions?
I have frequently driven to the South of France (in the car with family).
As we live in the North West we always had an overnight in Calais.
We found the French motels really cheap and ideal for a quick overnight stop.
The web site to check them out is http://www.accorhotels.com I did a quick check and you can get a room in dunkerque for 33 Euros. They usually have secure car parks as well.
Probably cost you more to camp for the night.
They do breakfast for 4 euros and with no tents to pack up you can get away quick.

Dunkerque was a bit rough the last time i was there, however there is a fantastic falafel bar in town!
I would try this site, they're recommended. You should have plenty of time for riding, the 940 south from Calais is a nice road with plenty of seaside towns to aim at.
Have a good one and don't get too hung up on accomodation in France - there's lots!!!
BONEY MALLONY is right on the mark. Iv done loads of trips over in France and have always camped as like most of Euroupe except the UK there really geared up for it. Iv never had to search for more than 20 mins to find a place and even the municipal sites in really small villages have hot water, showers ect and everyone is clean and tidy. As for the cost last year i was paying on average about 10 euros for the night.
Dont get hung up on it there,s plenty especially around the tourist places like Dunkirk, One thing i have always found is there will be lots of German and Dutch bikers camping and most speak good English and like a beer round a fire.

We didn't know what sort of prices we should be paying for camping, 10 euro's a night is good, I know the Formule 1 places are about 33 euros a night, which we may use if the weather is crap all week, looking forward to it, what ever the weather!
I've just come back from Normandy. Very cold and windy but dry and bright. Went to St Mere-Eglise,Arromanche,Omaha beach and the American Cemetery and Pegasus bridge. Only a flying visit though as the first grandchild made an early appearence. I just had a few hours getting lost in the cuds (deliberate). Lots of evocative names for a world war II anorak like me. I then drove to Calais and got a ferry at 03:15hrs. Dont ask me why but I love that drive across France at night. The words 'splendid isolation' spring to mind. Stopping and having industrial strength coffee on a regular basis. It got much colder as I got near to Calais and freezing rain turned to hailstones.
Lots of camp sites signposted in Normandy. I agree with other posts on this thread. Cheap accomodation is available in Etaps,Formula1's and B&B hotels they are all usually clumped together at motorway junctions in industrial type complexes. They can get very busy though and its worthwhile booking through the website if you have an idea of your route. I never follow my own advice unless I am in the car with my family. On my own on the Tiger I just leave it to fate. In the summer I just usually doss out in the open during the warmest part of the day. Showers and toilets are usually available in service stations and its all part of the adventure.
