Buell Ulysses
Just wondering if any of you guys have ridden on a Buell Ulysses. I sat on one in a showroom, thought it was quite a comfortable natural position, similar to the tiger, only a tad lower. Now I believe the the new version, the XT, is even lower. I have to admit that it has caught my attention. I'm planning a 3000 mile trip this summer, and am torn between the Tiger and the Ulysses. Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated.

I quite like the look of the Buell and having previously owned 2 harleys I would possibly consider buying one. I have heard mixed reports about them, I have a mate who works in HD dealership and the mechanics there don't like them for some reason or other. I hope to test ride one soon, but somehow feel it will not be as good as my Tiger 1050.
Support American industry and buy the Buell, but I'd much rather you support British industry so please buy a Triumph

I think it's just the opposite at our local H-D dealership. The people there are supposed to ride the stuff they sell there, and most seem to be riding Buells. A couple of the guys that I talk to more frequently have multiple Buells and ride them all the time, but no Harleys.

Recommendation: Ride before you buy.
I have ridden one and found three annoying issues:
1- Very high pitched noise from the oil cooling pump...all the time.
2- A 'shaker' at idle.
3- The rear cylinder will toast your upper legs in the summer.

I have taken a ride last year and it imho it does not come close to the silky ride on a tiger (any iger for that matter)
And as mentioned the " rear cylinder will toast your upper legs " , furthermore when you don't ride - idle - you get a very nice concert of a cooling fan trying to cool the last cylinder. Thing looks great but that's about it
bye for now

My mate at the HD shop in UK rides a Harley ( the only person in the dealership who does), but the rest of the staff ride mainly Hondas, Kawasakis and BMWs.

Try one!
I have test ridden the Uly twice on the street, and one time at a racetrack for 4 laps. I love it.
Wife loved her pillion side of the bike too.
I’m currently trying to find one for rent so I can take it for a long trip. Then I'll know 100%, but this far it looks like my British bike will have an American mate soon.
Very different bikes... but similar duties (for me). Try one!

The shake at idle doesn't bother me, nor does the fan so much. But the heat issue, especially in summer rush hour traffic does worry me. Not only the leg issue, but also the effect on gaskets etc as the temp rises.
I'm aware that synthetic oil is recommended after 500 miles, which is supposed to help with the heat and fan issues.
I guess I'll just have to ride both and then go for it. Thanks for the quick feedback fellas
