What happens when your throttle cable snaps ?
Interesting run to work this morning. Bike started to go on cruise all by itself I couldn't get the revs to drop.
Tried blipping the throttle, all that did was start it on auto accelerate, throttle action went limp, slipping the clutch to change down had it red lining.
After half a mile, manged to pull over and turn the engine off.
Certainly feels like the cable has gone, but not entirely sure why that would cause the throttle to be wound open ? Or maybe it wasn't wide open just the cable jammed in the sleeve at the equivalent of mid open ?
Anyone know if the Triumph throttle is reverse sprung so it's pulling open against the cable all the time ? Doesn't sound very safe, but....
Or is my ECU goosed ?
Have another theory - frayed cable end is jammed in the sleeve holding the throttle partly open. Tha works for me ! It sounds cheaper.

Certainly sounds like the cable has gone, & I suspect that your diagnosis as to the "auto throttle" response you described would also be correct. I have never had the Tigers throttle assy appart but I would be astounded if it was "spring to open" as you say that would be a tad dangerous. Sounds like you have the joy of either fitting a new inner to your cable or doing a complete replace. Hope its that simple, doubt it's your ECU. Fingers crossed.

Well, it's away to TwoHells in Edinburgh for a look over. Handy as I'm planning a run to Skye in 3 weeks.
Btw - where should the oil leve be on an 02 ? My dipstick is marked like this, top to bottom, roughly

should the oil be between the two -'s ? or just anywhere in the X zone ?
I am checking with the stick screwed fully in.

Sounds as if you have a frayed cable,
some strands brake and wind themselves around the remaining cable making the cable bigger so it is stiff in the outer
you can pull harder than the return spring so the throttle opens but will not return.

****, low on oil, as well then.
And the zip on my jacket broke this morning.
Who said trouble comes in threes ? I hope they were right, I had all mine in the space of 45 minutes this morning.

Good engineering would make it a "Fail-Safe" system, whereas when the system fails, it defaults to a status that can do no harm - in this case, shutting off the throttle and returning to idle

Nah, we just came over all grown up in the pub. Agreed we'd all spent a fortune no 'proper' touring type gear to keep us warm and dry and then for the cold and wet six months of the year never really used it !
So we're clenching our buttocks on the weather front and hoping for dry, and we'll live with the cold. Only two days, so as long as we stay relatively dry on day 1 we'll be ok.
