Newbie seeking help

Hi Triumph people. I have just bought my first motorbike, a Triumph Tiger 955i 2003 model. Will pick it up next week and are really looking forward to try it out. Gonna use it for commuting and for holidays driving in Europe.
Just wonder if anybody here know how to get some decent used panniers with the rails that attaches them to the bike, and a top box for a good price? I already have the top rack. Need some used clothing and well. Helmet I will buy new as I guess thatīs the wisest thing to do. Any tips on something good and solid for about 100 pounds.
I live in southwest London and would preciate tips on shops here.... Original Triumph would be nice, but Givi is ok as well.

Kind regards
Espen

Hi Espen.

Welcome to the forum.

As I'm sure you will suspect already, Ebay is your best bet for panniers and top boxes. Don't worry too much about the colour, as they can be resprayed to your bikes colour no problem.

Origional Triumph top boxes usually go for Ģ150 - Ģ200 on Ebay, same for the side panniers.

In my opinion stick with the origional Triumph boxes as they look the dogs danglies. They are not the strongest or most waterproof, but fit the bike so well for filtering through that London traffic.

As for clothing, again Ebay or a bike meet.

And as so wisely put by your good self, never buy a second hand helmet, as you don't know it's history (basic C.B.T.). It might look good on the outside, but the 25mm polysterene underneath that protects you, could have been deformed in a drop from the bike's seat, etc.

Stay safe.

Regards,
Graeme.

P.S. - Have you just past your DAS test ??

Espen,

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll really enjoy the Tiger. Just one word of caution - the Tiger is a tall, heavy bike so you do need to treat it with respect at very low speed and whilst pushing it about as it can easily take charge - as many, if not most, here can confirm. But don't let it worry you, once you're used to it it's fine. If the height does bother you, it's very easy to lower the '03 by 25mm or so.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies and the welcomes. I didnīt see them till now so unfortunately I posted a new thread with the same questions just now. Sorry about that.

Will keep on looking for accessories at the ebay if thatīs where its at. Havent seen any original panniers or boxes there yet so maybe Iīll buy some Givi boxes instead...

Did the DAS back in spring 2006 but didnt get the money to buy a bike until now. I am 36 and a fairly big guy of 1,9m so the Tiger is the perfect size for me.
Have been riding smaller bikes (125īs, 150 and Enfield 350cc) for a couple of years when travelling in India and Thailand (2002-2004) where a license is not really required (nobody asks when you rent). But I got tired having to ride on way too small bikes so a tall one was necessary.
However it is a bit daunting to make the jump to a 955, so I am gonna be careful for sure.

Espen

My Tigger came with a Givi top box, looks ok and is dry. The Triumph box`s I`ve seen look a bit dated (like 70s) Also, look out for any Triumph tank bags, got one of them aswellkeeps stuff dry and is easy to remove from the bike, 300m trip last year in rain of Biblical proportions and the contents of the bag came out - nearly dry

Here's a link to a top box on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Triumphs-best-...QQcmdZViewItem

The top boxes and side panniers come up on a weekly basis.

Good luck with what ever you decide to buy.

Hi... As an 03 and now on 07 tiger owner i would add my four pennarth thus.
Forget Triumph luggage. Over priced and not worth it. Go with a Givi top box and soft side bags etc. Use a tiger tank bag and a waterproof divers bag that fits under an elastiic mesh. Best of all worlds and cheaper by far. As for gear, whatever fits best is best.

Hi Espen, and welcome - this place is great for help and advice. If you are still looking for a good helmet for less than Ģ100, check out the Caberg Trip - it is a flip front with very useful internal sun visor. I find it very comfortable and not particularly noisy.Helmets are a very personal thing, and some people are more Arai shaped that Shoei etc. I got mine for about Ģ85, but look around, there are loads of gear sales at this time of year. With a bit of haggling and touring round the bike shops of Oxfordshire, I got my wife kitted up with good quality (Frank T) leather trousers and a really nice Lewis textile jacket for just over Ģ100!
Happy hunting!

Extra Motorcycle: Honda Hornet (wife's)
Thumbs up Congratulations...

Congratulations - I too just purchased my first Tiger. It will be in on the 29th and I am counting the days like a kid at Christmas. I've had sportbikes and cruisers before but I'll tell you - at 6'4" the Tiger is the first bike that is really and truly comfortable for my frame.

I'll post as time goes by and I break it in (or it breaks me in), heck I may even get the wife on it - she just got her first bike, a Honda Hornet (but she's already got her sights set on a Triumph).
