tiger whine

i have an 06 tiger with 3000 miles on it/ it has whined from new/ seems to be more prominent at about 25 mph and 55 mph but always there/ not the normal engine whine but seems to be a gear type whining / i thought it was tires at first/ dealer has replaced wheels/tires and messed with chain but i think it is transmission/ any suggestions ?

If my drive chain is anything less than 50mm slack it also whines. Gear changing also notchy

My 06 has a whine coming from RH side of the engine. Dealer has checked starter clutch, cam chain and tensioner. All looking brand new at 13500 klms. Only advice he and Triumph can give is to ensure to use mobil 15w50 oil.

Talking Check your chain tension

Hi Guevera, I had a similar problem on my ´06 model and fixed it yesterday by giving the chain a bit more slack than the owners manual recommends. the dealer probably set the chain tension as per the manual/triumph (40-45 mm/1.5"-1.75" slack), but if you do a chain tension search on here you´ll find that most tiger chains run too tight under load at that setting, causing the gearbox to whine under load, the recommendations are to slacken it off to 50-60mm/2"-2.375" depending on the use its getting( passenger, luggage, suspension settings, overweight pilot!, etc.) I run mine at 55mm slack measured with the bike on the side stand at the point behind the weld on the swingarm. hope this helps
