new or used tiger xrx?

I've been getting ready to buy a 2016 tiger 800 xrx new and recently came across someone selling a used 2015 with only 1,000 miles on it for $9,000. The caveat is that I would have to drive 6 hours each way to look at it and potentially buy it and also need a loan.

The owner claims that he has an extended warranty on it also. The thing that scares me is that I'm worried that my local triumph dealer would be hesitant to honor warranty items since I didn't purchase from them directly, anyone have experience with getting their bike serviced from a different dealer than where you purchased the bike from? any color commentary to add?

Also looking for advice on the pros and cons of buying privately vs dealer. Obviously the loan APR is way less from a dealer, but the price difference is huge being that a new 2016 xrx is $12,700 from dealer and this one is like new for $9,000. Even a higher loan rate would only end up being $1,000 in potential interest which would still be $2,700 cheaper. Thoughts??

I would check out your local credit union. I got a 2.5% rate which beat the dealer rate. I wasn't a member before applying. The dealer should honor the warranty which is 24 months standard. My only concern would be damage to the used bike. Can you take it to the local dealer and pay to have it checked out before buying?

Dealers usually only get an attitude if you buy from another dealer just to save $3. I've found that if you buy from a private seller then local dealers are more than helpful if you need work done. I'd check and see if the warranty can be transferred to you. Also if the warranty is an aftermarket warranty I'd see if your local dealer even accepts it.
