Usual stuff on any used vehicle. Then has it been dealer serviced? All the recalls taken care of? Especially the 12,000 interval. The 18,000 interval is coming up, perhaps the owner will pop for that checkup to give you some comfort in making the purchase.

When you test drive, give it some good time and do a bit of heat/cool (stop and go traffic, open road).

Has it been actively ridden or been sitting a while?

Good luck on the purchase.

1. Check the records of service.
2. Check the consumables like tyres, pads, chain and sprockets airfilters etc. These can add up in cost and I always think it is good to start fresh. At 17K, the chain and sprockets would be most of the way through their life, even if they still look OK.
3. Check for any useful (or dodgy) modifications such as fork springs, handlebars etc.
4. Check the frame and panels for any damage. Small spills are normal, but hacks from "going down the road" are best avoided.
5. Pull the dipstick and check the oil sight glass for the look of the oil.
6 Above all - test ride it. If the dealer is not totally willing, be suspicious and walk.

If you are really looking at the black Tiger in Peter Stevens, it has been very well looked after and serviced by the legendary Charlie Yengsukjit at Turn One motorcycles. The best mechanic in the world. It has never been touched by a ham fisted 17 year old apprectice with a cold chisel.

Just another point. I keep every receipt and record of anything to do with any of my bikes. When I traded my last Tiger in, I offered this to the dealer. They said they didn't want it. If I was a bike salesperson, I would want it. It would be proof that the bike owner cared, was careful and fastidious. I think sometimes they treat bikes like bits of meat and consider them to be all the same. Each bike is individual!

Willo, send me an e-mail if you want more details.

On bikepoint I can only see 6 Tigers.
1 x 955i in Cairns for $13K
1 x 1993 Carb Tiger for $7.5K
1 x "2005 TRIUMPH TIGER 900" This is of course incorrect. the photo shows a carb Tiger, so it probably a 1993 to 1998 or so. It only costs $8K.
1 x 2004 Tiger that has alloy wheels, so it is actually the '05 model.
1x 1997 Carb tiger for POA at a dealer in NSW
1 x 2000 Tiger 900 with no details and no photo?????

Tyhe one I am talking about is in peter Steven's Elizabeth St Shop. If you are interested, ring Maurice Allen.
