1050 hand Guards and heated grips
Has anyone put the new hand guards on yet? I just looked at the picture on the Triumph site and maybe the photo was taken at a bad angle, but the guard looked bulky to say the least. It didn't look very aerodynamic. I suppose it doesn't matter when you come down to it if they keep your hands warm and protected.
And a second question. Are the heated grips the same size on the new Tiger as their original grips. When I purchased heated grips for my '06 Sprint, they were "fatter" grips. I didn't like the feel of those. From what I see, the new Tiger's heated grips are the same diameter as the stock non-heated ones. Is this true?

What about BMW hand guards?
I too am looking at both. I have read that some are using the BMW hand guards...any further insight?
Thanks
Michael

Handguards
Quite a few of us have put KTM 950 Adv handguards on our 1050's, they look a lot better than both the BMW and the new OEM one's and work quite well.
Have a look at this thread on the 1050 site:

I doubt the heated grips are the same diameter as the originals. They're probably the same grips that fit the Girlies and probably also the Sprint you mention. Why would they make dedicated set of grips for the 1050 Tiger? Remember that they have to fit the heating elements in somehow which will, invariably, make them slightly fatter.

blacktiger,
I thought I had read somewhere the with the new Tiger, they made a groove in the handlebar for the wire rather than incorporate it into the new grip. This would allow the same diameter grip to be used with or without the heated element.
At least that's what I read. If anyone knows for sure, please post. I don't want to order them and be disappointed. And to rely on the dealer to "think" he knows what size it is, isn't the route I want to take. I'd like to know for sure.
TorqueyT, thanks for the info. My Triumph dealer is also a KTM dealer. I'll give him a call!

I have installed the Triumph heated grips on my 07 1050. They are slightly fatter than oem. My hands (as well as other parts ) are large so the minor difference is a non-issue.

Throttle grip because it is easy to get a good measurement while off the bike: Stock = 1.25" OD; Triumph Heated grip = 1.4" OD. The style is also different between the two grips: The heated grip has a fluted design whereas the stock grip is a much flatter design with very small recesses in the rubber.

The heated grips sound just like those on the Sprint. I think I'll pass and try the KTM handguards first.
Thanks for the info.
