On my second set of Distanzias, punctuated by a pair of Road Attacks.

The Distanzias are a good tyre, no issues with grip wet or dry, although they do tend to spin every now and then pulling away over white lines or potholes. And very cheap.

But the Roadattacks were better in terms of feel and turn in, in comparison the Distanzias need a conscious effort to start a turn, the Roadies went where you pointed them. Major difference in profile so it's not a surprise really.

They don't look so good on the bike, bit thin, so I was waiting for the TrailAttacks to come down in price before giving them a shot on the basis that a RoadAttack in dirt clothes would look good, handle well and last.

Still many miles to go to wear out the Avons though, they do last well !!!

Interesting to hear that the new Tourance EXP wore twice as quick as the original type. I've used Tourances for 50K and was considering the new type because I've been so impressed with them.
However, with all the talk on here about road tyres being better, I've just fitted some Avons Azzaro/Storm combination. Haven't been far on them yet but they seem good so far but I used to get 8K rear and 12K front from Tourances so time will tell.

I quite fancies the EXPs as I've been very happy with the standard Tourances but not at half the mileage thanks very much. The Tourance does everything I need for my riding "style".

Again its down to riding styles I think, I have the new EXP January, have cover 3000miles and have very little wear on the rear and some squaring on the front. I think they are a lot better than the old Metzelers.

Well I have to say I am gutted, I bought a pair of the new tourance EXP, they were on offer at M&P online for £130.00 delivered, I have only done 1,230 miles and they have used over 2mm of tread.

The annoying part is you only get 7mm on them compared to the 9mm you get on standard tourances, so at this rate I will be lucky to get 3000 miles out of the rear, I wouldn’t mind I don’t ride particularly hard, I used to get 7000 out of my old tourances and I wore away 2 sets of pegs from the angle of lean you could get from them.

These don’t seem to feel as secure at the same angle, but in the wet they do feel better, the tyre has a more round edge to it than the old tourance so when you are on a peg scraping corner you haven’t got as much rubber on the road.

The other issue I have is MPG, I used to get 160 miles to 16.00 worth of petrol, that worked out at about 49 miles per gallon, that has dropped to 40 miles per gallon, is it because these tyres are more sticky than the other ones once they warm up I wonder.

I will be going back to the old tourances; you know the old saying “IF IT ISN’T BROKE, DON’T TRY AND FIX IT”

Does anyone know if Metzeller are planning to phase out the original Tourance?
