I've noticed running at cruise (various speeds) the rpms hold between 3k and 4k. As I'm really not used to the 955 yet what rpm should typically be held when driving normally?

Around here typical speed limits are between 45mph and 70mph. I've been trying to spend most of my time on county roads with less traffic and a lot of twists so mostly doing around 60.

And since I'm riding conservatively at the moment, how often do you push the engine? This of course is not directed to the Daytona or S3 crowd. ;-)

Answer...every possible opportunity :-D , the engine can take it no problemo

The revs will obviously depend on your intended speed, but it can and will cruise all day long at 100mph if you can hold on that long!. Don't forget that our 955i's are the detuned mechanically and electronically, so you are not going to be running it right on the limit.

HOWEVER, there is always a price to pay for going pretty quick, and it is fuel. You will notice a considerable increase in consumption above 6,000 rpm. But as that equates to 90 mph in 6th gear, dropping down to say 85mph and you get much better consumption.

Whoa,

When riding in and around town, I select a gear that keeps the RPMs just below 4k so that the engine is ready to respond to quick inputs from the throttle...

Glad to see that you got the Green... You'll notice that people will see you coming, and that helps on the Safety side of things...

3-4K RPM is good. As Spacecom notes, around 4000 is where the power comes on strong, so somewhere not too far under that is an excellent place to be if you may have to accelerate quickly from your present speed.
