Wondering what others have paid for a 6k service? My '14 is due and the dealer quoted me just under $400 which honestly seems pretty high so I was wondering if that seems in-line.

I did both of mine myself so it was cheap. But $400 seems high for a glorified oil change. Yeah they hook up the computer and probably load the newest tune if there is one. They should be inspecting the plugs and air filter also.

Yeah - I did an oil change myself at 3,000 miles but I figured the warranty is up this month, maybe there's something to the whole computer, balancing the throttle bodies etc. so maybe a once over might be an okay deal. However; an extra 2.5 hrs of labor to check things at over $100 an hour seems excessive..IDK that's why I figured I'd get the forums in-put

Maybe try another dealer? Just call and ask what they get for the 6k?

And getting it checked over on the computer isn't a bad idea really. Get the latest tune as well.

Just an fyi, neither of my 800's ever needed the throttle bodies balanced, they were always spot on. That usually only changes with a valve adjustment but mine never needed those adjusted (yet) either.

I find that the dealer wants to charge you that kind of money for the 6k service excessive ,I have the self same bike and just had mine done the dealer picked the bike up done the service and brought it back total cost was $250 ,please note I do live in uk but all the same cant see an extra $150 if you can go to another dealer for a price

They negotiated with me down to $300 OTD which was fair IMO. In Las Vegas we only have one dealer and they're nice people. I'll do most of the services myself but with the warranty expiring this month I figured a good once over was reasonable.

I think you'll find that most shops will charge in the $90 - $100+ range. If you look at the Service Sheet for the 800's, you'll see there are a number
of items to go over besides just loading the latest tune and an oil change. My 6k's started out around $300, and then steadily crept up as the shops increased
their tech/hour costs. Also, some dealerships are jacking up the price of the supplies/parts. The last service I had done at a dealership they charged
me $15 for a $7 spark plug (x 3). Luckily by the time the next major service came due the bike was out of warranty so I started doing them myself.

The real eye openers are the 12k services. Anywhere from $800 - $1000, but then again, they do the valve clearance checks, and that's a chunk of time. It
takes 30 - 45 minutes (for me) just to get the plastics, tank & air box off. Oh, and just wait until you hit the 12k service at around 40,000 mi. That's when
you'll need to do the fork seals, so that's another 2 hours or so. Oh, and the headstock bearing check/lube too.

In the end, it probably all balances out. If you don't have the time/mechanical ability, then going the shop route might be the best way to go. If you're handy
with a wrench and not in a hurry, then doing it yourself can save a bunch of $$$.
