Selling my bikes, (including my month old Tiger which is the most fun bike, I have ever owned) after barely avoiding yet another serious accident. I have been riding since I was eight years old (I am almost 34 now) and have never been down (on the street bikes.) Motorcycles have been my passion from a very early age and as much as i love riding, I have two young daughters that need me to be there for them. My wife, who also rides, and I have mutually made this decision to give it up. I realize that this does not guarantee our safety and future as anything can happen any moment. Hopefully one day, when the girls are grown, we can return to the motorcycling community. My FS ad is in the classifieds.
Good luck to everyone and Ride Safe.
Craig

Craig,
I understand and respect your decision, it can't have been easy (especially with a new Tigger in the garage).
Like you say, things are never a certainty so whatever you do, take care.
Best wishes
Jim

I would keep the bikes around for a little while to ensure that this is the direction you want to go. Being 34 myself, my "death Conscience" is much greater than when I was in my early 20's.

Craig,
I respect your decision, your family's health and happiness comes first.
But maybe when your girls have flown the nest and are big enough to try and look after themselves you'll come back to it, this forum might even still be here.
Best of luck anyway and have a happy life.

I am afraid my friend that I have bad news to impart.
Like you I decided to forgo the 2 wheel transport in the name of health and family. BUT
motorcycles are like malaria. You can get over them now but they will return later in life. In my case I held out for 25 years. But the virus got worse as time went on and so now I am back on 2 wheels again. Yes its madness. But I love it, and with the experience of years, maybe I will get away with it. But whatever...
Good luck, but treasure the memmories (?)
:whoops:

Craig:
I think you are making a mistake. I advise the following:
1) Try not to ride in town. Get on your bike and get out of town the most direct way possible. I'll bet it was in city traffic where they almost got you?
2) Get a lot of term life insurance (i've got 3 kids, so I have 1/2 million for each one! I'm worth a lot more dead than alive!)
3) Move out west, preferably Wyoming. The roads are un-crowded, and item 1 above is easior to do!
Think about it, don't do anything rash.

In 1980 I had surgery on a back problem, a bad slipped disc. I had been laid flat for some months not getting better and all that. It was done NHS by a neurosurgeon (pardon spelling??) I was in a ward for 4 days surrounded by kids, and blokes, who had fallen off motorbikes. ( about two thirds of the ward.) I felt a fraud in this place.
The result was it spooked me so much as soon as I got home I sold my loved Honda 250RSA ( remember them !) I lasted about 4 months, and another RSA was in my garage :-D If you have bikes in your blood that is that !! I sold mine for the same reason, but to this day I ride to 'arrive' thinking about that bloody hospital ward. Good luck to you, but how long will you hold out ???
