Question Air Cleaner Intakes?

I hate to sound like a dumba$$ but in the owners manual it says to put tape
over the air cleaner intakes. Just where is that on the Tiger? The two little
openings below the headlights? Or do I need to remove the seats?

under tank..

If you have a pre-1050 model, then it's hidden under the tank. Yes, you will need to remove that sucker (before you get to it, you'll pop the seats, the battery, some plastic, wires and contacts and...). I love my Tiger, but it's not easy to work on. To get to spark plugs, you neen to so all the aforementioned plus remove the airbox!

Now, more importantly, why do you need to put the tape on the intake???
I must have a missing page in my manual..

Mine is an '06 and the manual says to put tape over the air cleaner intake
openings. Which I thought was kind of strange. Page 83 is the cleaning
prep list. I'm not going to pull the tank just to give her a bath! I wonder if
that was left over from the steamer era?

I just washed her anyway, covering the levers, handlebar controls, the end of the exhaust (another strange requiement to me), and a piece of tape over
the ignition. After I dried her off she started right up to put her in the garage.

I used S100 by-the-way. Seems like alright stuff for normal cleaning but I'm
going to have to get a brush after the engine behind the headers. Some times nothing is better than a little elbow grease!

I'd ignore that reccomendation from the manual. Mine is an early '06, actually purchased in Oct. '05. I've been washing it for 1 year 9 months, without covering anything, with no negative results.
