Unfortunately due to my brother loosing his passport our up coming trip to the south of France has had to be shelved for the time being, however not wanting to loose the chance to put more miles on Old Greenie, we have decided to take a trip up the West side of Scotland.

Question is guys especially members of the Scottish Tiger Clan is what are the best roads and sights on the west coast??

Hi,

I've just been planning a route for late August, but I do have the advantage in that I spent my early teens living just South of Glasgow.

This is our route:

Strathaven (my mother lives there) to Gourock via Largs i.e the coast. Ferry over to Dunoon. Up to Oban via Inverary and Loch Awe. On to Malaig, ferry to Skye, back over the bridge to through Glenmorist and Fort william to Inverarnan. Then home.

Plan to stay at Strathaven, Oban, Skye and the Drovers Arms in Inverarnan. I used this web site to get all the best roads in. Round trip of 1,000 miles from Chester.
Motorcycle Roads

Check it out.

Regards

Chris

Your brothers passport problem could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
Just pray for good weather and Scotland is unbeatable.

Agree with both the above. Chris, your loop missed another ace road - if instead of taking the A837 east past Loch Assynt you'd continued north on the B869 through Stoer and Clashnessie you'd see some of the best coastal views I've ever experienced.

If it's not raining of course.......

Clive, do not miss Skye. Well, all of it's good actually!

Do the lop all the wat to the top of Skye and back over the bridge as suggested. The roads are utterly brilliant and traffic-free (well it was in April). My Tiger ad matey's 990Adventure were the bikes for the job.

Cheers guys

This may not be the disaster I first thought?. I have travelled the East Coast but not the West which I am told is remote with great roads and scenery.

Chris photos look great as always and just hope that the weather is kind. :-D

Fair comment Ian, but I wanted to see Ardvreck Castle on Loch Assynt (below).

Still the B869 sounds like a good enough excuse to me to head back north sometime soon

Scotland certainly takes some beating - as you say "provided the weather is kind"
