Hi
I am starting to plan a trip with the wife from the Netherlands to the UK
I would like to start from Hoek from Holland to Harwich
From there to Lands End. I am planning to start week 20 for ca. 6 days.

Maybe the 'Tiger boys' from the UK have some good ideas for along the way.

Any good suggestion is welcome
thanks for any help

Wim,

Can't help with the Harwich end of your route, but when I go to Cornwall, I take the A30 from the Basingstoke area. If you need to make up time, it would have to be M4, M5, A30. Or A303 all the way to Exeter.

The A30 is twistier and slower than the A 303, and noticeably quieter.

The A30 goes through Salisbury, Shaftesbury, Sherborne and Yeovil. On reaching the M5 junction near Exeter you basically have 3 choices:
1. Stay A30 which is becomes mostly dual carriageway well into west Cornwall.
2. Take the A38 (dual carriageway) south of Dartmoor, via Plymouth. Slightly more scenic.
3. If the weather is nice, take the B3212 off the A 30 over Dartmoor. Utterly brilliant scenery. At Two Bridges, right in the middle of the moor, take the B3357 through Tavistock, then A390 to Liskeard, and back on to the A38.

Good maps available at:

Let me know when you are going!

If you want to drop south of London, cross the Thames over the Dartford bridge (free to bikes)(good view across London) and continue on the M25 to Sevenoaks. Get onto the B2042 to Edenbridge, B2026 south until it crosses the A264, turn right on the A264 to East Grinstead. Then find the B2110 through Turners Hill and Hartfield to the A281. Drop south to the A272 and enjoy that road all the way to Winchester. Then find your way to Cadnam on the M27 and turn off and cross the New Forest on the B3078 through Fordingbridge and Cranbourne. Then the B3081 through Sixpenny Handley and Tollard Royal to Shaftsbury on the A30. Just after Tollard Royal look out for "Win Green". It's a great view point. Then get back onto the B3081 and you'll go down the famous "Zig Zag Hill. The A30 will take you all the way to Exeter.

I haven't ridden around that area, but have driven a bit of the A30 and always wished I'd been on a bike.

If you're into cars, drop in to the Haynes Museum it's in Sparkford, near Yeovil off the A303. They also have a reasonable display of Brit bikes, but the Duesenberg is a must see.
