I have a Pro Oiler chain oiler. Quite happy with it thus far. But I don't think I have it set up quite right. I calculated a starting point of table 8 per the manual instructions and it seemed to be over oiling (lots of fling up the back side of the bike (the chain looks nice though). I'm now up to table 10 and it still seems to be over oiling. Anyone else using this product? What settings are you using? Thanks.

Hi,

Yes, I've been using a Pro-Oiler for very nearly 10,000 miles. I think I'm on Table 4 (if I remember correctly). After leaving it on the default setting for ages (and over-oiling), I eventually decided to try to set it up properly. The Tigger tyre size isn't listed in the calculation details, so I opted for something close... I worked out to table 4. I still get oil on the wheel, but it's not (really) excessive... I prefer to over-lube than under-lube! Do you run on S1 setting for general use?

If I remember correctly, Table 4 will give the highest level of oiling. I've been upping mine since my original calcs. I get oil splashed up the back of my finder and left side case. I did have a Touratech chain guard which I just changed back to stock hoping that helps a bit. I agree, over oiling is better than under oiling. The chain looks well oiled.

I run in calibration mode and am trying to get the optimal oiling under dry conditions at the S3 setting per Pro Oilers instructions.

That is correct, the lower tables run richer.

I'm running a Pro-Oiler on my Tiger for over 50.000 km now, excellent tool. (Best Oiler around imho)

Kurt, don't get too much involved into science and calculations, just squeeze down the setting using 200 pulse steps (like from 2603 to 2896) checking the chain every 50-100 km or so. If you think it gets too lean, jump up 100.
narrow the setting down until you're setting satisfies.
(little or no fling-off, shiny O-rings)

Once you discovered this "sweet spot" choose the table where "sweet spot"= S2 or S3
Now you will be happy for years to come, just flip to S4 in heavy rain..... cool huh ?

It's not that the PO caculations are not good, there's just too many variables in nozzle adjustment, airodynamics around the rear sprock and oil brand variations.

Enjoy!
