Up to 1800 miles now on the bike, but am a bit fazed by an annoying resonant vibration at about 6k in top gear.

Strangely, the vibe is only noticeable through the left peg. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and should I be worried?

Compared to old Triumphs I owned, the Tiger amazed me with how few resonance modes it had. :-)

Of course, it does have some. One between 5K and 6K does seem to be rather common, although I don't recall anyone mentioning only feeling it through one peg.

Since you only report it happening in top gear, I would suspect that removes the engine as a possible source. How are your chain and sprockets, and how tightly do you keep it tensioned? This is just idle speculation on my part, for lack of more solid ideas to offer you; but ever since my chain was snugged up a bit at the most recent service, I do seem to feel some minor buzz at certain speeds that previously occured at different speeds. Might be relevant, might not.

Perhaps someone will have more information...I'm afraid I don't spend that much time at 90mph any more, though it certainly is easy with the Tiger. Strictly unintentionally, I mean. ;-)

Kav,

Don't be alarmed, this has been noticed by many. It will get better as you pile the miles on. I had the same thing, 6,000 rpm in top gear, through the left footpeg. It has never gone away, but it is barely noticeable now.

Just means i have to ride at 6,500 rpm instead  . Seriously, it is nothing to worry about. Checking your chain tension is always worth a look. There should be at least an inch and a half slack. There is always a temptation to overtighten them, but you have to take into account the movement of the swingarm when you sit on the bike. Get somebody to sit on the bike and then test the slack on the chain, that should help?

Kay,

I've got that left peg vibe as well but between 3+4k rpm in 3rd gear, but it only started after the 6k service and latest tune download. I don't really notice it anymore unless I intentionaly try to feel it.

One quirk i have found about my bike is the way vibrations move around the bike, sometimes in the saddle or the left handle bar, left foot peg and occasionaly the right heel gaurd.

But then again that's what riding is all about just like the old cars I drive, it's a total experience every single sense is on alert and tuned in.

Thanks for the info guys, it's put my mind at ease. I'd sort of dismissed it but wanted to be sure, and I knew I'd get good advice if I posted here.

I'll double check the chain tension, although I think it's ok. Disappointed to read about the Lubetronic, like CATUCK, I've just shelled out for one.....wish I'd bought a Scottoiler now

Cheers again
