My Tiger blew up today. It gave no warning at all. No noise no vibration, nothing. I hope Triumph does the right thing.

As a side note an Aerostich Roadcrafter also protects against oil burns. Almost all 4l of Mobil 1 were spray on my leg.

Check it out

As if that was not bad enough it happened during rush on a Friday in NOVA/DC traffic so GIECO's wrecker took more than 2 hours to arrive.

Bummer! as the young people used to say.

I'm not familiar enough with the older engine to realize everything I'm seeing in those closeups, though it's clear there is a lot of fractured metal and exposed innards. If it's not too painful, can you somewhat describe what we're seeing? How long have you had this bike?

Glad to hear your protective gear saved your leg from some nasty burns.

The first is the top left of the motor. Cracke Starter housing, hole in the block , cracked head, and the oil passage that soaked me.

The Second is the lower half (wide open) with what is left of the connecting rod that caused the damage.

the third is the crank from the top. and the last isthe conn. rod again.

The bike is a 1999 885 with 1500 mile. I bought it new 2 month ago so it still has all of the factory warranty. I have no idea why this happened, it was broken in properly, serviced by a dealer at 500 and had the proper oil level at the start of the day.

Thanks, 2ndSpace, understanding the view angles helps me visualize the full extent of the damage much better. All I can say is "wow!" Hope it doesn't take them too long to get a replacement engine to you.

I hope the dealer and ToA take care of everything quickly and painlessly. Fortunatley I have a couple scooters to ride.

I looked at it more closely today and it looks like the cylinder siezed. What left of the conn. rod spins freely on the crank but the wrist pin is gone and I don't see the rest of the conn.rod laying in the bottom of the case.

Dropped it off for repairs today. We'll see how they handle it. I told them I need it back in one month for the Halloween Campout.

Pushing 3 months and I still don't don't have my Tiger. If someone buys a BWM (car) and it is out of service for 3 month out of the 5 month of total service, would BWM provide a loaner or some other compensation? YES. I want my f@#%ING Tiger back!
