I don't understand all the "complaints" I'm seeing in magazines about the 1050 Tiger gearbox. Are these not the same trannys we have in the 1050 Sprint? I own a Sprint and I sure don't recall ever seeing any complaints about the gearbox... What is up? Is there really a "problem" with the Tigers gearbox (specifically hard to get into first gear) or are all these reviewers simply copying each other from the early Spain reviews? I have a Sprint 1050 and the gearbox is one of the smoothest and surest shifting trannys I've had. Neutral is extremely easy to find and it shifts wonderfully with a great feel. WAAAAAAYYYYY better than the Aprilia Tuono I rode last summer... Why is everyone complaining about the Tiger and not the Sprint? What's the dealio?

That's a good question, I find that the Tiger shifts as good as any bike I have owned. Plus, like anything else they need to broke in and will only smooth out over time.

Thumbs up

my Tiger 1050 (2008) gearbox is excellent. I have no complains. Smooth as silk, no problem with 1st or neutral or false neutrals so far.

I picked up a 2000 RS just after Christmas, with only 3500 miles. I found the gearbox to be very notchy compared with my old Yamaha. Getting into neutral, after stopping is difficult, especially when cold. However I'm told that the gearbox does get better with mileage, so I'm not that concerned. I've just adapted my riding style a little. I also have an old BMW R65 so clunky gearboxes don't upset me so much. Every bike I've ever ridden has had it's "issues" If this is the only concern, a Tiger may very well be in my future

Most Triumphs come all set up for size 7 feet. Those of us sporting natural ski's find it neccessary to adjust the levers to fine tune things. My sprint needed more than my tigger cos of the angle of my plates. (of meat = feet)

My tiger shifts nicely, already have 800 km now. I can compare to 2006 955i Tiger and the gearbox is much better in new Tiger.

The Tiger 1050 engine and gearbox is the same as the Sprint ST and the Speed Triple. Its the add ons that tune or set the bike up for its different market needs.
