I've searched the disussion for tire suggestions since I'm a new Tiger owner ('99) and I hate to ask about tires. Here goes:
I just returned from a ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway and Deals Gap (1002 miles for the weekend) and feel I will need new tires before long. The bike handled great on The Dragon (fullly loaded with camping gear too). I even scraped both pegs ever slightly in the tight corners! I'm on the OEM Michelin T66 and they feel great but wanted to see what other riders suggest. I like a high mileage tire that's dependable on both dry/wet and occasional dirt. Metzler Tourance maybe?
Thanks for the suggestions.

overhere (europe) the tourance generally tested better against the michelin and bridgstone alternatives and it's true they have good mileage! How many miles do you want to ride on a tire?

T66 are crap in wet conditions (so I read, no experience myself)
Tourances are good in dry and wet: lasted 25.000 km on '00 tiger front and rear with the occasional peg-scraping, but also a lot of highway.
Michelin Anakee supposed to be a bit better in wet, but less milage.
For other tires, search this or every other board.
Tires - Tired.

I have 10k miles on a set of Tourances and they look Like they could go about 2k or 3k more,at least they have to until I can get some new ones, anyway they are great in wet and dry,They do not seem to require any noticeable amount of warm up and so long as you keep an eye on your psi.I been using Metzler tires for about twenty years. i feel as though they make a great and consistent product.

Hi,
I have tried most tyres available on my 3 Tigers are my opinions are:
1. Avon Distanzia AM43 & 44 - they had OK wear, reasonable grip but really weird handling. The bike tipped into corners quite markedly. I never really got used to this and replaced them when only half worn.
2. Michelin T66 - OK wear, OK handling but very poor wet weather grip.
3. Pirelli MT 60- OK wear, OK handling but very poor wet weather grip. I haven't tried the MT90.
4. Metzler Tourance - Very good wear, OK handling and pretty good grip.
5. Michelin Anakee - Very good wear but probably not quite as good as the Tourance and unusually I wore out a front nearly as fast as a rear, Excellent handling (this is subjective but I prefer them to the Tourances) and really good grip in both dry and wet (once again I find them better thanthe Tourances).
I have just fitted my second set of Anakees today - that's how much I like them.

Having run T66s, Tourances & Anakees on the Tiger I would agree with Tim I think that the Anakee is a better all round tyre. I have Tourances on my new 04 & I will replace with Anakees when they wear out. Now where's my keys, got to get some rubber scrubbed off. :-D

Has anyone here tried any pure street tires on a Tiger? BT020 or D607's.
I will only ever ride on the road and need to know if it is worth going to a street tire and what, if anything, I would achieve by doing so. TIA

You can fit BT20's even on spoked wheels. I have had confirmation from bridgestone UK and Bridgestone belgium to this effect. I plan on this at the next tyre change as my riding is all road based.
turn in will be a lot quicker.
Tourances are very good all round and has been said get the best overall ratings for our bikes when i have seen comparison tests done. Local mag had a long term Tiger and tried a few options. Tourances came out waaaaaay in front
