Thought I would commute to work on the tiger today as the weather was due to be reasonable.

Its a 37mile blast down the motorway and at 7 in the morning it can be cold at this time of the year.

Yippee for heated handle bar grips.

However after about half an hour, I noticed the throttle was not returning when I released it, it needed to be manually closed. It was alright at lunchtime, but the same thing happened again on the way home with the heated grips on.

A bit of spannering when I got home concluded that the grip was expanding with the heat and contacting the bar end. The rubber on the grip was acting as a friction damper and stopping the throttle from closing.

I have since managed to move the throttle along the bar to give a bit more clearance, but it seemed to be tight to move hence the gap did not increase that much.

I dread to think of the consequences if the throttle got totally jammed whilst doing 80mph down a motorway.

Anybody else experienced this problem?

Chris,

I had the same problem, only when the heated grips were on. I tried trimming a bit off the end but was worried about cutting the wire. In the end I put a couple of washers behind the bar-end weight to space it out from the grip. Seems to have worked ok.

I had exactly the same problem only today. A couple of washers sorted the problem.

Try slackening the whole switch cluster and sliding it inwards as far as the cables will allow then just 1 or 2 washers under the bar end should cure the problem. Or, you have a cruise control when the heated grips are turned on.

So it isn't just me that has had the problem. I thalf suspected when it happened it would prove to be a common problem and therefore a design fault.

I tried slackening the throttle and brake lever to slide the throttle inwards but something must be holding it as I got very little travel.

The washers is obviously the solution. I have plenty in my garage.

Thanks for the tips guys.

If I recall correctly, which I frequently dont these days, but I im fairly sure of this one. there is a little hole in the bar & a corresponding nib on the throttle/Cluch assemblies which is ment to keep everythin put once the two halves of the casing are screwed together.

It was on the cards for the best day of the week today, hence I took the Tiger into work again.

It was also very chilly at 7 this morning and I had to use the heated grips again.

It appears that the limited movement I obtained from slackening everthing was just sufficient to give the clearance to stop the throttle binding.

I didn't have to space out the bar end.

However I do agree with BigD there must be a hole and nib. I did notice there is a wire going into the bars which I assume must be for the heated grips.

The nib would be to stop the throttle body cutting the wire if moved to far.
