I recently purchased a 2004 tiger and love the bike. I just installed a K&N air filter, and the engine lites is now on. Anybody have any suggestions as to what might be the issue. The bike starts up and sound great.

All help appreciated

Salc,

What do you mean by engine lights, is it one light or all lights?

Did you fit the filter yourself or did a garage do it for you?. I was just wondering if all the electrical connectors were back on properly after replacing the tank.

If you had the battery disconnected you probably triggered the "check engine" light. If that is the case, just start it up a bunch of times. Eventually it should go off.

Thanks for the feedback. Tango, I did do it my self and have checked and douple checked all the connections. I never actually removed the tank. If you are careful enough you can raise the tank enough to get the old filter out and new filter in. The only light on its the engine light.

Paulie, thanks for the info. I did remove the batery, had to to raise the tank enough to replace the filter. The bike runs awesome definantly a diffieance with the K&N. I recommend replaceing the stock one for those of you that have not. I rode the bike 2 times and will be riding more today , hopefully the light will go out. I cannot notice any issues with the bike, so I agree with you that somehow it needs to reset. We shall see.

Thanks for the info on the K&N filter. I have an offRoad can and a new tune but have been stalling or the filter because I don't relish taking the tank off. Maybe you could give as a few more details on the process.

also, what's the K and N part number? thanks.

Hi Paul, I also have the offroad can. I picked up the 04 tiger used with 1100 miles on it. The guy that owned it before me had the rear gear changed and the can added. Unfortunately he was to short for the bike and dropped it a couple of time(minor scratches), I picked it up for 8000, was a steal I could not pass.

As for replacing the K&N lets see if I can remember the steps.

1. Remove side leg covers from tank
2. remove air vent from front fairing
3. Remove Battery and battery housing
4. Unbolt front and rear of gas tank
5. Gently raise tank. More on the rear than the front. I got the back of the tank to sit on the cross strut where the battery was. I raised it to the point where I could lay a 2X4 (on the flat side)block under the rear to get it high enough to get my hands under the tank.
6. Unscrew the four screws that hold the airfilter in
7. Raise filter holder and remove existing filter
8. Install new k&n filter( K&N part # TB-9097)

Reinstall all parts in the same sequence you removed. Total time it took me was about 45 mins, but it was my first time and was not sure of what I was doiing. There was one connection that came off during the process. looking at the handle bars from the rear( on the left side of the bike right next to the back of the tank there was a white connector that came un done, I recoinnected before I mounter the side leg peices.

Good luck, from the seat I would say the low end torque is very noticable.
