I took a test ride on a 2007 Tiger non-ABS yesterday. I thought it was brilliant other than the mirrors which were *****. I have read some complaints about the gearbox but compared to my RS it was smooth as a baby's bottom. There was a bit of buffeting around my head but it was hard to tell if it came from the screen or the 30-40 mph winds howling at the time I rode. I hit a snow squall the last two miles of the ride. The Tiger was very stable during all this. I think I'm going to order one this week but am undecided on the ABS as I have never ridden a bike with it. I tend to ride more toward the sporty side but will be using the Tiger to commute 100 miles round-trip to work 80% freeway. Any thoughts on the ABS would be very much appreciated. Also debating color black/blue. Thank you.

If you can swing the ABS, get it... You'll never know it's there until it's needed!!!

I ordered the ABS its not that much compared to any damage from a wreck. I believe its 3rd generation so it should be reliable. My only two wrecks could have been avoided with ABS. + I friend of mine who has a BMW swears he can brake later and further into th corner with them . It may be psychological but if it works great.

Thanks for the feedback Punkinwing and KevinH. I must say that I expected more feedback. I'm used to the Sprint forum and people there seem more inclined to post rather than lurk. Any further comments would be appreciated.

i don`t think many members have had any experience of ABS on a bike !! the only thing i would say is that the tyres make a huge difference with or without ABS when it comes to braking. when i bought a newish cage a few years ago i had pirelli`s on it and the ABS was coming on any time i touched the brakes in the wet once they wore out i fitted GoodYears ( a tyre i like ) and i could then stand the cage on its nose before the ABS kicked in. ABS working means the tyres are sliding !!

just my thoughts !!

I believe you're right.. ABS on bikes is pretty recent and many really don't have seat time with it..

I've got a Non-ABS Goldwing and the Wife's has ABS.. It's interesting to throw the two around on a MSF range or a closed street course and compare the differences!! On the Goldwings and the BMWs, ABS is there but you would never know it until you really romp on the binders!! Maintenance is the same and it's not really complicated beyond a standard bike (other than the sensor rings and pickups that have to be moved when doing wheel changes)

One reason I am totally for ABS it on the Tiger is that on the Speed Triple I find it difficult to properly modulate the rear brake without locking it!! The brakes on that bike are AWESOME and can really get you in trouble if you don't practice frequently!! I'm figuring that ABS will be good at preventing a rear lockup in a panick situation in less than perfect surfaces.

Now, where's mine!!!! Open house at the dealer Friday, maybe there'll be some news!!! :-D

There was an interesting article/test in Two Wheels only several months back. I'll have to look around and see if I still have the issue. I pass it along to a less fortunate (read "cheaper") friend once I'm done.

Anyways, as I recall, the test was ridden by Jamie Whitham, a former racer that writes for the mag. He was able to beat the ABS bike in perfectly controlled conditions (it seems like they tested in wet and dry) by just a bit. However, the final conclusion was that for the guy riding in the real world, it was probably a very good choice.

Looks like it was in the October issue, and I don't have it anymore. Sorry.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Thanks for the responses. I'll be talking to my dealer tomorrow.
