I would like to be able to buy a trailer that could haul around my tiger and maybe another one also. Has anyone got any good experience with trailers. What to look for, what to stay away from. Any manufacturers and price ranges.

All Help Appreciated

Carl

If I was buying I would buy a three bike one as this could be used with a single bike in the middle - more stable loading or two - one on each side. if you buy a two bike trailer then when carrying one all the wight is loaded on one side only.

a friend uses a normal trailer rather than a bike specific one so it can also be used for other duties as well.

My father and I chose the Kendon. It works great and stores uprithg in a corner of the garage. The wheel chocks make it real easy for 1 person to losd and unload. Price was $1800.00

Don't mention bad experiences to me. If you do get a trailer MAKE SURE THE TRACK IS AT LEAST AS WIDE AS THE TOWING VEHICLE, AND IT IS NOT SITTING ON SKINNY TIRES.

Been there done that, learn from my mistake not your own.

Call me a cheap b*gger but.....

I bought a foldable trailer from Harbor Freight - capacity 1175lb and they are only 219.99 with FREE ship.

Buy a 3/4 inch thick 4'x8' plywood deck from Home Depot and carriage bolts to fasten it to the trailer. Since the trailer folds, have Home Depot cut the deck into two 4'x4' pieces.

Motorcycle chocks are available from various catalogs including JC Whitney for about $16. Use 2 by 4 cross members under the deck to ensure strong mounting points for the chocks. I also built stakesides to use it as a regular utility trailer.

I have quite a few hours and about $400 total in the trailer - the last thing I did was modify it to take two Thunderbirds - that meant adding two 6' angle irons across the trailer to act as anchoring points for the tiedowns.

We used it to trailer the two bikes about 1200 miles (the Texas panhandle is probably the flattest straightest most boring stretch of highway one can imagine) at speeds up to 80mph. Nary a problem.

The track is about the same as my Mazda 626 and the tyres are standard 4.80 x 12. I note Tango's concern over skinny tyres - not sure what problem he experienced but I think I have proven that my rig can handle two bikes very safely at highway speeds. When carrying one bike, I move the chock to the centreline so as to maintain stability.

The trailer folds vertically, runs on castors and occupies a floor space of less than 6' by 2' and stands less than 6' high.

I'll add some pics to my album.

Trailer is here

I agree with Steve on this one. Why trailor it when you can ride it.

The problem with the Tiger on a trailer is the weight of the bike being so high up.

The trailer I used was borrowed from a friend who uses it to trailer his BMW GS, similar type of bike to the tiger, but with a much lower centre of gravity.

If all you are using it on are straight highways, it may not be an issue. But I now know what type of trailer is NOT suitable for the Tiger, but hey suck it and see.

I have a Kendon and am happy.
It is rock steady at para-legal speeds; you don't even know it's there whether loaded or not.
Folds up and stores in the side of the garage in 2'-4"x6' space.

Not sure if they sell CargoMate out where you live; but if your looking for a quality cargo type trailer; they are hard to beat. I have the 6x12 with the Northwest package with stone guard, inside light, cargo doors, tie downs, torsion axle, side door etc.

What I really liked about it was the price; about $2800 (plus tax) - which if you've shopped around for cargo trailers; that's quite a bit less then a similarly equiped Wells Cargo or Haulmark.
