I've got the Touratech 41 litre Zega pannier system on my 03 Tiger and although generally happy with them, I feel the mounting system between pannier and frame is a bit poor.

Having no locks fitted as standard and then having to open up the panniers every time I want to take them off is a bit "homemade" for a set up that cost £463, after all is said and done.

Does anyone have the Touratech top box and if so how is it attached to the Tiger and how do you get it off again ?
Surely you don't have to empty the box to get access to a similar set of swivel mounts that the panniers have?

Can anyone suggest another make of large aluminium top box, preferably with a locking system so I can secure my helmet inside it ? (Why doesn't the Tiger have a helmet locking tab under the seat or am I being daft and just haven't found it yet ?)

Or is anyone out there prepared to rave about how wonderful the Touratech top boxes are?

Cheers

I realize you said aluminum; but I have the Givi E460 top box and it'll hold two helmets; and the price was very cheap compared to other options - also someone posted on another board, that Al Jesse will be begin making some of his outstanding aluminum panniers for the Tiger sometime this fall.

Regarding your comment about the lack of a helmet lock; it's kind of hard to believe they didn't put one on the bike eh? I found a pretty cheap solution for that too. JC Whitney sells a cable lock that works great. You can attach it several places on the bike. I use it when I go on tours since I can't afford to give up a whole helmet's worth of space in my luggage.

I've been looking at the Happy Trail panniers. Great price.

Any comments?

I spoke to Metal Mule last week, but they won't be geared up to supply for the Tiger until spring 2005 at the earliest.

I've never come accross Happy Trail panniers before, anyway I've got the Touratech ones now.
