I have just seen the new '05 Tiger. I note with amusement that the gearlever is now a folding type. I have broken 2 gear levers over the last 5 years with stationary falls from the stand (never me doing it - of course).
I'll have to get one, as this should prevent a reoccurance.
Can anyone see why it wouldn't fit straight on?

Dropped mine pretty hard off road this past weekend and nothing broke. Thunderbike crash bars work!

There were a few rocks!

Should fit straight on?...as far as i am aware, the gearbox selector shaft size has not been changed at all. I intend to do the same in the very near future!

glad no damage; I applaud your efforts to show others (many on this list) that the Tiger can actually be taken off the pavement and even take a bit of beating (with proper armor)

That's why I bought it. There are alot dirt roads and trails to ride around here.

As you can tell it's a 1999. It is brand new! My wife found in NY while visting family. Seem the owner of Imperial Cycles retired and closed the shop and this and 6or 8 other bikes were in a barn being stored. So for less than half of an '04 I got the full factory warranty And don't feel bad if I scratch it.

Lots of GS's, DL's, KTM's and Tigers around here. Every weekend someone wants to get dirty. :-D

The '05 gearlever fits the '02 955. Not cheap, but better than being stuck.

I'd also love to know the costs as I've got an '02 955 and bent my gearlever when I dropped the bike (stationary).

The '05 gearlever cost
AUD$180.00 or about
US$126
UK£70
Pretty expensive, but a much higher qualitry item and I think it will work and never break again. Cheaper than 2 of the older type!
I wonder about the new funky brake lever????

I just bought one for my 99 Tiger £56 as I dropped it on some gravel on the road (Rubber is extra £3.50).

Removal Proccess
=============
1) Place bike on centre stand
2) Pull out side stand (easier access to the bolt this way).
3) Remove 5mm (I think) hex bolt at the bottom of the lever.
(remember to keep the bolt )
4) Pull / Shake / Rattle old lever off, I had to use a flat screw driver to prise it apart a bit.

Fitting
=====
1) Push lever on, I have to "drift" it on with a small piece of wood and a hammer. Ensure your happy with the angle before you finally push or "drift" it into place.
2) Refit the bolt and tighten (not too much or you'll strip the alloy).

Its a 5 min job.
