I just purchased a '99 Tiger and am a newbie to Triumph motorcycles. It is stored in my garage and after a ride, my garage has an overwhelming smell of gasoline. The previous owner said he never experienced this and the mechanic said that it's normal and something about unspent-excess fuel vapors from the EFI. He even showed me a drain tube with vapors coming out of it.

The bike is very clean and has a pampered 6300 miles on it. Has anyone else experienced a strong gasoline odor from their tiger? Is this normal or should I be worried?

Thanks

I would not think this would be normal. The drain tubes are for over-filling not "normal" use.

Any strong fuel vapours are a danger - get them to sort it out.

Please get that checked out right away. My 05 does not put off any odor at all.
1st might be to chk the plastic fuel fittings at the tank. They have a tendency to crack and leak which would be more noticeable as the bike sat after running (odor that is). Change to metal fittings anyways.
Next might be a saturated charcoal canister. Not as dangerous but it would need to be addressed.
Get it sorted out then ride the heck out of it. They are a great bike..

My 2003 started to have the smell and I found one of the quick release fittings on the left side of the engine starting to weep...just a little... but it got 'worser'..

I had a post on the fuel fittings breaking off and what I did to get the leftover bits out (Fuel...do it stink)

A LITTLE SMELLS A LONG WAY...have it looked at quick.

It definately sounds like the fuel couplings. They are already subject of a safety recall by Triumph. You need to check with your dealer to see if your bike is eligible for the upgrade. Failing that there is a rubber 'o' ring on the connector, it is this that normally fails. They are only a few pennies and easy to fit.

But get your dealer to check for the safety recall
