Guys I need to install a Garmin 2610 power lead etc to the bike and I was considering hard wiring the cable to the battery and running it under the tank to the headstock is this OK for 1.

Plus I may need to left the tank to get the lead up close & personal :-D etc, do you have to drain it or can I just undo the screw at the headstock and prop it up like I could with other bikes I have owned or is it more complicated than that.

Any tips

Mutley

YES

taking the tank off is an hours work and if you are going to do it yourself pick a time when it is less than half full.
there was a thread about it not so long ago

here is what I do
seats off
battery out
front faring side panels off with indicators
tank side panels off
side panels off
battry box out
un clip fuel gauge wires
unclip fuel pump wire
pull drain hose and breather hose
unclip fuel lines
undo front and rear locating screws
clear a space for the tank on floor
lift back end and pull back tank

be very carful

if you do not have heated grips then try pluging into the connector under the nose. shorter wire and non of the messing around.

Mutley,

What robbie says is spot on, but, you don't need to remove the tank completely.

Undo the bolts fore and aft then lift the rear of the tank and prop it up with a piece of wood acroos the frame, it also helps to swing the bars forward.

I've done this several times and it works a treat.

Hope this helps.

I have heated grips and installed an accessory outlet on the dash. I tapped off the heated grip's supply to the relay. I'll do the same for the GPS I'm installing. I don't expect the whole circuit to draw more than an additional amp or two.

Guys thanks, seems a bit of a bigger job than I thought :???: hey ho, not a problem. I will probably try Tango's method, I just want to make sure I route the cables properly so that they are not to close to the Engine.

Thanks again.

If you are mounting the garmin at the front end (where else) then take the power from the front end. I have wired mine in to the clock. If you take off the fairing you can get to the plug that connects to the clock. This is always live so you can piggy back wires to this connector. Works a treat and is much simpler.
