Went to take my 06 Tiger out today after a lay up in my garage for 2 weeks. Got on and tried to turn the handlebars. Wouldn't go past the frigging left front side of the gas tank. What the hell is happening I thought. There wasn't enough space between the steering assembly and the bit of the front fairing that is on the inside of the gas tank. Unbelievable. I know it's been cold lately but how the hell would the tank move/warp/magically move in like that. Any answers guys/gals?
No it hasn't been dropped either.
Needless to say I can't even ride the thing.

Did you pop the filler cap?

and was there and sucking or blowing of air?

the tank because of it's shape and size can bend a bit due to pressure if the venting system has a problem. poping the cap will restore the balance and the shape hopfuly! then you need to track down the cause. stuck roll over valve on LHS under the black tank cover is suspect no one.

Yes indeed. Sounds like a vacuum problem. My Sprint had the same problem. Huge sucking sound whenever I put gas in her. My vent hose was kinked from the factory. It may pop back out once you relieve pressure. If not, I would certainly think you'd be able to get this fixed under warranty. What a drag though...

Did it suck or blow? Either way I would be questioning its nature.

I've just suffered from this, tank was nearly empty after the 24k service, went to fill up and got the sucking sound and whoosh of air, thought nothing of it.

Half way through a tankful and noticed last night the left ahnd fron 'pod' of te tank was bent inwards, quickly opened the filler cap and 'WHOOSH', in goes the air.

Lots of mumbling about bl00dy monkeys can't even re-fit a tank properly, called the dealer to book it back in to have the tank re-set.

Then thought, it can only be a hose, surely even I the Mechanical Muppet can spot a trapped hose ? Popped off the left hand panel to the rear of the tank and there's two hoses, followed one of them down and sure enough, it's kinked. Straighten it out, there's some 'sighing' as a little more venting takes place and a reassuring smell of petrol vapour.

Wrapped some tape around the kinked section of tube, just to help stengthen it as it was showing a tendency to kink back at the slightest opportunity.

One thing I did notice - these breather tubes are very long, reaching all teh way down to the gearbox housing, do they have to be so long ? It's the length, and having to wrap it all up behind the engine, that's causing the kinking.

The hoses should run down and below the engine and point at the ground

I have a similar problem with my Steamer right now. I had the tank off for a few weeks of on and off carb work as time allowed. Upon trying to refit the tank to the frame I noticed that the bolt holes don't line up anymore, by about a half inch! With a lot of cursing and struggling I got the tank mounted, but now the fairing pieces don't mate to the tank correctly. I can't get all the bolts in, so the rear (by my knees) parts of the fairing are just hanging out there, about a half inch from lining up properly. What the heck is going on here?
