Well, I have been aching to have a bike that I can travel on and soak up the miles. Because I love the Speedy and all of its attributes is why I have decided to purchase the new Tiger. From what I am reading and seeing in the latest mag articles and press releases, it will have many of the attributes of the speedy and the Sprint (a cross between naked and dressed, instead of running around naked it will be like wearing shorts and a tank top ) so I ordered one yesterday. (Caspian Blue)
Unfortunately I have to give up the Speedy and will miss her tremendously. She is definitely one of the most fun bikes I have ever owned. But I believe the Tiger will still be loads of fun to ride, even though it won't look as killer as the S3. I will still be able to wheelie on demand, have fun in the twisties and then be able to throw on the bags and take off to destinations unknown. And, if my wife actually decides to come along, I can take her in relative comfort.
As for some thinking that the pillion seat is too high if you look at picks with a pillion on board they are not much taller if at all then any other sport tourer on the market today. All touring bikes including the Cadillacs (Goldwing, Beemers, etc.) raise the pillion slightly higher than the rider. This in part allows the passenger a view they would not otherwise have.
My decision comes in large part to the specs of the new Tiger. The attributes similar to the S3 are weight, power (motor), frame, brakes, ergonomics, steering geometry, and best of all: tire size (this means I can use the Corsa III's I just purchased for the S3 .
This afternoon will be the last opportunity for me to ride the S3 as I have to drop it off at the dealership for consignment . I hope I made the right decision, I won't know until the Tiger arrives in February (ETA).
One thing I will do is give my impression of the bike as I put some miles on it. I did go ahead and took advantage of 20% off accessories with new purchase and ordered the bags, trunk and off-road pipe and the center stand (missed the stand on the last three bikes).
Looking forward to hanging out with you guys in the near future, guess I need to change my name to OKCTiger.

Congratulations. I wish I could have three late model bikes at my disposal. I'm jealous.

Unfortuanately the S3 was dropped off at the dealership this afternoon to be sold on consignment

And you have nothing to be jealous of that is one nice bike you got there. I was looking at one on the show room floor when I dropped off the S3. It sure is a good looking ride, I recently read that the white and tangerine color scheme is so sought after that they are sometimes selling for more than MSRP and when one can't be found people are purchasing other colors then ordering the tank, fenders, etc. in the white and tangerine.

Congratulations! I'm in a very similar situation. I love my Sprint ST, but the new Tiger seems like it would give me most of what I love about my Sprint, in a more comfortable, semi-nekkid package. I almost bought a Speed Triple instead of the Sprint, but needed something with a little better wind protection. I think the Tiger is going to be it. The only thing left for me to do is make sure I can sit on it and touch the ground okay. If it passes that test, and the suspension turns out to be as good as people say, then I'm in.

Cool, go sit on an S3 and if you can touch the ground comfortably you will have no problem with the Tiger. And then jump in there and get you one. :-D

I'm with you,I've owned 5 Hinckley Triumphs, currently a Tiger but the one I had the most fun on was the S3.But as I'm doing more miles the S3 is just not practical enough. I never saw myself as wanting a tourer, but the advantage of hard luggage is undeniable (I've travelled with rucksack, tankbag, throwovers and you can basically tour on anything but with less convenience).
I see the new Tiger as having a lot of the attributes of the S3 but with practicality when you need it. I'm thinking the black one will look mean.

Yeah. I love the Bonnie and it is a keeper forever. It is the perfect commuter. On longr rides, my right knee gets a bit tired after about a hundred miles but other than that, I don't mind naked bikes at high speed other than getting covered in bugs.

So additional rides for me will make it two bikes.

I just can't justify a second bike right now mainly in terms of my personal time commitment for maintenance ard getting use out of it. But perhaps in a couple of years. The Tiger would be high on the list. I really like the S3 as well and have ridden the new one and found that it fits me well.

Here's how I may decide on what to get: I weigh 225 lbs. right now. The way I figure, if I weigh closer to 200 lbs. in two years, I will get a Speed Triple. If I weight close to what I do now I will get the new Tiger. If I weigh closer to 250 lbs. I will have to look at a Rocket III. D-:

I saw the new Roulette Green S3 at the dealer yesterday and it was gorgeous. I did not like the color in the photos but it is striking and beautiful in person. I am looking forward to seeing the new Tiger in person soon.

Congratulations again and I hope you will be able to post a lot of photos of the new blue Tiger for us to enjoy.

Look at it this way - at some point, you can go back and pick up a used S3 to supplement the new Tiger.

I love my Speed Triple, but it's the first brand new vehicle I've ever bought - and probably the last. It's sorta a trade-off between warranty protection or the heartbreak of depreciation.

The new Tiger is pretty cool, though - anything with that motor is gonna make you smile a lot.

Congrats' OKCTriple!

After reading the recent Cycle World preview of the new Tiger, I suspect that Triumph have made sure it is well sorted.

Even though I'm pretty happy with my ST, I have lingering concerns of crankshaft failure like a few of the other chaps have experienced.

So maybe next year, I too will make the switch. I find it quite a good looking bike, and especially like it in black. Nothing wrong with the caspain blue either!

I just found out that the Triumph touring rig will be in town next weekend for test rides. They tell me there is an '07 Tiger on board but test rides on this bike are out. I don't understand why they would have a Tiger on the truck that can't be ridden when they are taking reservations for them? At least I can sit on it and poke and prod it. I hope they will at least start it and let us hear how she sounds.
