Yes, I have got the 'Datatool' gear indicator for exactly the same reason you have stated!

It was a little fiddly to fit, but if you take your time and keep it neat, it is a fairly straightforward business. Took me about 2 hrs to fit and calibrate it.

No more 7th gear for me !

There is an Aussie mob who make one here: Bikegizmos GPI. I have not used it but have seen it and it seems to look good and I assume it works OK.

Hey BigStripey, I just ordered a Datatool indicator. Any chance you remember the color codes for the various Tiger wires? If not I'll pester my local dealer.
Cheers,

When I first got the Tiger, I was for ever trying to find 7th as the engine sounded so busy (well it did after a Norton Commando).

After 6000 miles or so I've got used to it and rarely look for another gear. I do sometimes just check that I am in 6th by trying the lever as 5th and 6th are so close.

I must say that 4 gears would be ample. But we must follow fashion mustn't we.

Yes, anytime you've got more gears than fingers on one hand, it's easy to lose track! :chug:

Yep, I've got used to it but I still get caught out once in a while.

A visual check on the tacho tells you which gear you are in for a given road speed. I think mine runs at about 4500rpm at 70mph.

Cross checking the tach/speedo works for me too. The times I could use a gear indicator are like slowing for a 15 or 20 MPH corner and finding 2nd or 3rd rather than rolling on in 4th or worse leaping forward in 1st. I guess I wouldn't have problems if I was better at counting clicks?
