I may as well be the first one to do the inevitable. Sprint vs. New Tiger. I gotta say this new bike has enticed me. It has much of what I love about the Sprint in an even more comfortable and adjustable package. Why oh why didn't they have this Tiger last year? I'd have one in my garage right now. I definitely see a Tiger in as my next Summer romance. I love my Sprint, but this bike is probably going to be better for my needs.

1050 Tiger Pro's compared to 1050 Sprint

1. Half fairing = less crosswind "shoving", less heat buildup.
2. Better Suspension over crappy freeways with washboards and raingrooves
3. Upright seating position = no more sore wrists, more comfortable
4. Nissin radial brakes. Do we dare hope Triumph brake problems are fixed?
5. New EFI = Faster starts, smoother idle, better FI maps
6. Quieter Engine- Thicker cases = more dB's for the exhaust growl.

This bike addresses every quibble I have on my Sprint. Now. If it can ride on rails and handle anything like the Sprint, we are in business. My Wife's not gonna believe I'm buying another bike already.

Sounds like the new Tiger's made for you!
I've been diappointed and critical of the 07 in numerous cases. I would have liked seen Tiger being continued as a big trailie. Now Triumph has nothing w/ even modest off-road capability in the line-up. But if you are looking to upgrade from Sprint - this one's for you!

Odd how the Buell Ulysses is seen as a breakthough for Harley into the big adventurer market and the new Tiger is getting bashed because it has a 17" wheel. What gives here? You guys must have more ammunition than the 17" wheel thing. Screw what the marketing guys say; mount some Pirelli Scorpion Syncs on the '07 Cat and hit the trail. It's lighter, has an inch shorter wheelbase, adequate ground clearance and suspension travel... Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Let's dirt this thing and quit whining!

I'm pretty sure the new tiger is going to be my next bike. I have the D675 and love it and the tiger will be the perfect companion and will replace my R1200ST.

The web site doesn't list the suspension travel and gives the dry weight as both 416 lbs in the write up and 436 lbs in the specifications? Wonder which it is?

Anyone have any idea when they will hit the showrooms in the USA?

I'm not going to commit to a purchase until I have read a couple more ride reports. The Nov. issue of Cycle World has the first one, but it's not very comprehensive.

I just realized the coincidence of my town, Tigerville, to the bike??? I guess I have to buy one now!

Tigerville is in fact an unincorporated but named community closest to my home.

I am pretty sure the 436 is correct. The UK web site lists the dry weight as 198kg.

The non ABS version hits the states in January and the ABS version in March.

Maybe. But, when I got around to bleeding my brakes after the second year, I got so much air out that I concluded that they may not be bleed very well out of the factory.

I disagree, give the Scrambler a try. It is way better than the Tiger or a big GS in the dirt. I have tried all three and will definately stick with the Scrambler for any non-pavement expeiditions as long as the word modest still applies.

Many are suggesting that the pre-07 Tiger was a dirtbike and the New Tiger is not. I don't get it. In the strange world where a 500 pound motorcycle is a dirtbike, how is a lighter, narrower one less a dirtbike. It still has plenty of suspension travel and ground clearance. Is the 17" front wheel the deal breaker? Since when is 19" the ideal off-road hoop? If you've got the older Tiger, keep it and feel superior. If you're shopping, yes you can take the new Tiger on a dirt road along with the Multi-Strada and any other mount you're brave enough to mount knobbies on. I've got Pirelli Scorpions on my '01 Tiger in 180/55-17 rear and 120/70-17 front. Does fine on dirt roads. Won't be entering the ISDT with it or any other tour-worthy scooter but blasting down a fire raod... sure.

tyrebyter,
I agree entirely. The 07 tiger is not marketed as an off road bike, it is marketed as a road bike as was the 99- 06 models. Whether triumph has missed the calling of some tiger owners or not is irrevelent. The fact remains that it is a road bike. Hell, we can take any bike and take it off road if we want. Some are better suited than others. For me, i'llbe getting in the queue. Albeit shame about losing 4 litres . That was not a good move as a lot of us brought it for the bigger tank.
If I want to go off road for any distance i'll be taking something more suitable.
Thats the kiwi 2 cents worth.
Have a 3500km ride around the coast of the north island over the next 4 days and the the 02 will be just the ticket !!
Keep the sump down and your arse up !!.
