Gents.. Looking for a little free advice.

I'm seriously contemplating picking up a leftover '05 Tiger at Capitol BMW in Raleigh. I sat on the bike today.. it's sweet, and I love the Lucifer Orange color. It's brand new, no demo miles, no test ride miles.. it's just been sitting there.

Orange Tiger

The bike can be bought for $8500 "Out The Door", which in NC means that I'd be buying the bike for just under $8K (before taxes and license fees).

Man, I dunno.. I know this is a Tiger forum, and y'all are going to be somewhat biased,.. but what d'ya think? I did own a '05 R1200GS, which was probably the nicest bike I've ever owned, and I've thought about replacing it with another. But the Beemer would cost me over twice what I can buy the Tiger for.

Couple things to ponder..

- What special things should I be looking for or thinking about before the purchase?
- It doesn't have a center stand; what's that going to cost me?
- I'd need to bring the bars back a bit. Who makes a good quality set of bar backs?
- Can I lower the pegs an inch?
- I need to pick up a travel trunk - who makes a good one?

Thanks for your advice up front.

Since free advice is worth what you pay for it I'll give you mine at a discount. If you like the bike, buy it- the price seems right if all is intact. My 05 has taken me around the country with few glitches although it had front disk problems that some have, some don't. I got the center stand and it comes in handy although I don't use it regularly. Touratech makes bar risers although there are others. Seat may need replacement depending on your riding habits and pain threshold. Givi has an assortment of trunks- I am still saving for the Triumph one as it matches the luggage. The windscreen is almost a sure replacement and can be studied on other posts here. The off road can makes a difference in sound and performance. Most important is a set of crash bars- cheap insurance for that moment when gravity calls. Once again the posts here discuss this to no end. The best thing is to ride it, check out the options and make your decisions as you become more familiar with the machine. Then you can decide how much money you want to throw at it. If you are like the rest of us you won't regret it... :-D

i bought my 04 as a left over model in 05. i had to go all the way to fla from nc to find one. i thought i just had to have spoke wheels. 4 flats later i'm wondering if the cast wheels and tubless tires might have been better afterall. although i do like the orange with black stripes better. who's ever seen a real tiger with silver stripes

Buy it. I wish I had found a deal like that, back when I bought my '06. I'd have jumped all over it.

Come to think of it... My #2 boy is coming home on leave, in a couple of months. If you don't pick this bike up...

To lower the pegs try the Buell set. In the UK I paid £26 for them. See
http://www.triumphrat.net/modules.ph...58476&forum=39
but be warned - the pin on the Tiger is smaller than the buell and strictly speaking a bush should be made up otherwise they will rattle a bit. Also the Buell pegs need a wider bracket space so they have to be machined or filed to fit.

JRO, Please don't let me stop you if you're seriously interested. I'm still on the fence, and I'm leaning toward another BMW. Call Bob Domino at Capitol BMW in Raleigh - 919.834.5111. Tell him you saw the post here and that Chris in Fayetteville posted it. I won't get anything out of it; he's simply been a good salelsman to me.
