Well, seems the new Tiger is sufficiently different that, really, had it not been called 'Tiger' few people would have gone "oh! that's really a Tiger!!". Although time will tell and, in it's own way it'll probably be a great machine.
On the other hand, if you scan this message board you find the current model; has a few must-have mods, really very few systematic problems (the occasional bad batch of front disks or what ever).
Seems to me that the design and manufacture has been refined year on year.
So will the current model become a classic?
Should a canny investor be filling a shed with 955i parts?

An interesting point of view.
How often do we see this happen when any manufacturer brings out a new model. Existing owners motivated by a variety of reasons cling on to the current model claiming it can't be improved upon. Without doubt, and very soon, the 00-06 Tiger will look old-fashioned and out-of-date when put up against the sharp looks of the 07. That's consumer progress.
Don't get me wrong, I love the existing Tiger and have owned 3, but I know that as my eyes adjust to the new model and assuming it goes as good as the spec suggests I'll soon been hankering after the new Tiger. And I certainly won't be the only one.
It'll be another 20-25 years before the existing 00-06 Tiger is really cherished. Think I'll shrink-wrap mine and put at the back of the garage!

This happened with the VFR Vtec.
All it took was for a cpl of mag articles to suggest the vtec power surge was dangerously sudden, some low speed fuelling glitches in early models and over engineering by Honda to make the 16k service a £500 exercise and suddenly the bike was 'rubbish' in the eyes of owners of the 750/800 Fi models.
Ask anyone with an objective viewpoint whether the Vtec is either a) a very good bike and b) better than previous models and you'll probably get the answer 'yes' to both questions.
Doesn't make the older models bad bikes overnight. Honda went for a radical overhaul and it backfired to an extent, took a few years to convince old VFR owners to move on.
I suspect the same will happen of Tigers. If Triumph have got this bike spot on, it'll attract new sales and be a winner. If there are the slightest problems, you'll have every owner of an 885, 900i and 955 saying 'I told you so'.
And we all want Tiurmph to succeed.

I wonder how easy it'd be to drop a complete 1050 motor into a 955 chassis?

the thing is, seems to me, that engines apart, the Tiger has evolved - not like, for example, a lot of sports bikes, which do fashion changes each year which can produce more problems than they fix.
I'm not fussed either way yest about the new Tiger, I'm not brand loyal, would never get a first-generation design, etc.
A bike which has been steadily tweaked over 5 years has a lot to be said for it.

My plan is to make my next bike an 06 Tiger. I think the design improvements over the years make it a solid bike. It will be few years before the new Tiger will instill the same confidence.

What do you want your bike to do?
What do you use it for?
I certainly didn't buy my Tiger for its 'good looks'!
In the real world of pot holes, rain, traffic and 60 mile commutes 5 days a week, not to mention going on a 200/300 mile run through the North of Englands finest on a Sunday, my Tiger does OK (and i always get first pitch on the campsites because i can ride straight across the field)!
If the new Tiger can do it better - i'll buy one.

Hope so!
This 6 year old Trophy on eBay sold for $5400. I've seen them go for the high $4's but this is the highest yet.
Perhaps the Trophy is already becoming a treasure?

I like my old Tiger because it works well and has soul. If I hadn't already invested in 17" wheels of the proper width and new suspension, I'd be all over a new Tiger. But I did, so I can wait. Others gripe about the new Tigers wheel sizes. Guess opinions are like anal orifices: everyboy's got one. Can't help but wonder what opinions we'd see on this forum if Triumph had offered a 19" or 21" front as an option. Less backlash and more embracing the lighter, faster youngster? I still remember when a Meridian Bonnie or Tiger was considered a dirt bike with the right wheels and tires. I think the grumblers will come around to this new beast... just as soon as they figure out how to spoon on some knobbies.
