Hayduke, I've had owners of older British iron bikes claim that their bikes are "100% reliable". What they don't mention is the amount of fettling required before and after each ride to ensure that this impressive statistic is maintained.

If you follow the service book it usually says stuff like 'replace if worn' and 'renew every x miles'. Most of us would visually inspect components and make our own minds up as to whether they need an expensive replacement. The point is, anything can be made reliable if you are willing to pay the price (time&money).

Hi Greame,

Chain maintenance? Lube every other fillup, 3 adjustments in 31k and a clean every month is not a high workload and definately shouldn't put you off a bike. The way YOU feel about it is the most important for you.

Just make sure you get a good ride on the Beemer, they are an aquired taste. I hope the bike you that will 'float your boat', be right what what you use it for and give you trouble fee service. Nothing else matters

Cheers, Russell

I was one of them when I used my Commando every year for 2000+ miles in a week in France. Although it never let me down and always made it home, there was a substantial amount of off-season tinkering to keep it like that.

I changed to the Tiger last year and so far have been very happy with it.

The Tiger is a great bike, but I am sick to death of chain maintenance.

Chain maintenance !! All you have to do is fit a pro-oiler and then top it up once every couple of months. I have never had the need to adjust or touch the chain in the last 24K miles, just keep it a bit loose and all is fine.
Surely thats not to hard is it ?? :???: :???:

I've ridden both (05 GS & 05 Tiger) & quite frankly neither floated my boat. Of the 2 I enjoyed riding the Tiger more. The 2007 Tiger, well that certainly looks tasty to me. Perhaps I'm one of the target market. I will ride that bike at my first opportunity.
