I've been driven to look at the manual. The "pass" switch sends a feed to the main beam live side regardless of the position of the dipswitch. So both dip and main beam should illuminate when you press that switch - both bulbs if the relays are fitted, the alternate one to the dipped beam if they are not.

The dipswitch works differently in that power to the dip beam is interrupted when the switch is in the main beam position. Current is fed directly to one of the main beam bulbs via a blue / white wire. In addition, a blue/white wire goes to the main beam relay (if fitted) which energises the other main beam via a purple / white wire.

In the dip position, current is fed to one headlight's dip filament via a blue/red wire. Again, a blue/ red wire goes to the dip relay and energises it, passing current to the other dip filament via a purple / red wire.

So what you are getting now is consistent with having no relays fitted, or they are both inoperative.

I can't quite understand why it should previously have behaved as you describe.

Ian is correct - that is how my 06 was (originally) wired. I've only known these to work the way described and never as both dips/one main etc.

But...don't get me on the subject of wanting to switch off my lights again.....!

Thanks for all the info, guys.

I really am more confused than ever now, but I'm off on holiday now, so will get her looked at when I get back.

Cheers,

Mark
