I do a 2 mile commute everyday and since I've not had the bike that long (few weeks), I've been watching everything very carefully. Well; The oil level for a week was slowly dropping and it looked like it was burning oil (I was sure it wasn't). Anyhow I decided a quick 60mile run one fine sunny Monday night (as you do :-D ), When I returned the oil was back up near the MAX mark the exact orginal position that it was filled on just after I bought it.

If I pressumed earlier that it was needing oil I could have topped the oil up; doing the bike no good watch so ever as oil pressure would have soared and damage engine.

Anyone else noted this or have I got a unquie problem ???

Firstly, was the bike on a level plane when you checked the sight glass? (sorry to state the obvious, but it has happened before)

Did you briefly run the engine before checking it and then let it settle for a moment ?

How much extra oil do you think you put in?

If you have overfilled the oil, it will probably blow it out of the breather into the airbox. I did this on my 885 Efi and i noticed a small discharge of oil on the left hand side of the engiine casings. Thought i had a leak but it turned out to be leaking out of the bottom of the airbox.

It is not the end of the world, it is fairly easy to clean out the airbox and at worst it will cost you a new air filter element?

A lot will depend how much you have overfilled it really, but unless you have put a lot in, it should be ok. Just drain some off and re-check your levels.

Let us know how you get on?

Jim

Yip on centre stand in the garage.

No I let the bike settle for a couple of hours

I never put any in, I was really tempted.
I blew all the seals on a car once doing this

It seems alright this week, maybe it had some cobwebs

are these bikes different to the 955i for oil checking? The bike should not be on the stand (for the 955) as it will be nose down. It should be checked with the bike on its tyres but held level and on level ground.
