It's that time again, my bikes off the road for a wee while getting some work done to it. (this is becoming a bit of a habit, might have to get some therapy)
So out come the hand books. I had a look at the service handbook and it says the first major service is 4/6000 miles, 6/10000Kms.
My question is, would it invalidate the warranty if the bike is taken in for service if it is over 6k, even by a small amount, is 6k the cut off point.
My interpretation is, that the bike can be taken in anytime between 4 and 6k miles, 6/10000kms.

Davie,

General rule of thumb is approximately 10% excess. I queried it with my dealership because they could not fit me in for the service for two weeks after my target date to reach the 6,000 miles. I ended up with the clock on 6505 miles and all was well?

I will probably be in the same boat with the 12,000 which i have got booked for 20th July. I think that as long as you communicate with your dealer and explain your circumstances then it will be ok. Especially if you dealer knows you to be a careful owner that keeps his/her bike in generally good order.

Just my thoughts and experiences....

Cheers,

Jim

Actually, I believe the two sets of numbers are because Triumph uses the same service booklet for many models, and the service intervals are different for them. The twins are serviced at multiples of 4000 miles, for instance, where most (maybe all) the triples are serviced at multiples of 6000 miles.

Which set of figures to use will be given in the service schedule in the owner's manual for each model.

yep its every 6000miles (10 k kms) for the tiger. The 4k does not apply to your bike. Check the service schedule. i think provided the dealer knows you going over is unlikely to be a problem. it seems in the UK it is damned near impossible to book in for a service much less than a month in advance so you cannot say for certain your bike is going to be under or on the specified interval. I guess as has been said +10% would be reasonable much more than that and you could be pushing your luck if something happens before the bike is serviced.

we are fortunate over here that we can normally get the bike serviced "within" a week of the request
