I took the bike to Autocom on Saturday and when the chaps took the seat off there was a very light film of oil over the frame, and a little pooling under the riders seat,

Now I have a scottoiler and have been struggling with setup, but even so I cant see how oil would get on the frame under the seat,

There is no oil on the garage floor so it cant be to serious but is generally all over the bike, I have had a look at the lower engine, the silver bit near the exhaust, that had a lot of oil covering it as well as dirt :-D but I have cleaned it up again, I have checked the garage again today no oil on the floor :???:

I am concerned because I have never had oil under a seat unit before on any previous bikes so I am thinking that maybe there is a problem and it is spraying a very light film only when the bike is being ridden :???:

You guys who have had Tigers for a while may tell me this is normal, but I would welcome any suggestions, cheers

Mutley, keeping his fingers crossed

nope thats a new one on me. I would check the scotoiler thourghly. I get oil over the tyre and number plate and under the left side of the rear seat when I forget to turn the oil flow down when the weather suddenly warms up (like now). Its about all I can come up with. You may have leak. Sorry I cant help

I would suspect the oiler. If there has been too much it will spray all over the place

All Triumph bikes destined for the UK market are sprayed all over (prior to the seat being fitted) with a light film of protective oil before leaving the factory. It sounds to me as if your dealer has not done a very thorough job of cleaning the bike during the PDI.

I assume your dealer fitted the scottoiler and therefore this is the first time you've seen under your seat? I very much doubt the scottoiler is reponsible for oil found in the front exhaust shield! :-)

I suppose it could be argued that the oil is helping to continue to protect the unseen bits of your bike, but it does attract dirt and I would just clean it off

Here's my tuppence worth....

I had a similar problem on my old Tiger. The cause was eventually......traced to me slightly overfilling with oil. It had gone up into the airbox and was leaking out. As i was riding along the air was blowing the small amount of oil alongside the bottom of the tank and on to the frame and battery housing and beyond.

Obvious question, have you topped up the oil lately ???

Worth a look perhaps ?

Thanks guys,

Jim i was thinking it could to much oil but I have not topped it up it had its 1st service 2 weeks ago and so the Dealer could have done it, I will check the level later on and let you all know.

I was under the impression all dealers measure the oil exactly before pouring it in, but hey Mechs do cut corners I suppose, but i reckon that it is probably that.

Cheers chaps.
