This weekend I had the most awful experience whilst riding my Tiger. I went to a bike meet about 60 miles away, on the way back it started to rain with blustery winds
I couldn't believe as to how bad the tiger was in a strong wind, I couldn't keep it straight, I was literall blown all over the place. I pulled over three times because I really thought I had a puncture or a wheel had come loose.
I limped home at 30 mph too scared to go any faster, much to my annoyance every other bike passed me at twice the speed.
Is it the tank shape or the panniers that catch the wind?
What are other peoples experiences of Tigers in the wind?
If this weekends experience is typical Tiger I'm afraid Tiger will have to go.

It's the same with every' bike in my experience. Especially in the blustery winds that we are currently experiencing.

When side on to the wind a motorbike has the aerodynamic form of a grand piano. You have to live with it and, just like you did, ride within your limits.

So the other bikes passed you. What does it matter?

I`ve been out in very windy conditions and never felt like selling the Tiger !! you say the panniers were on, yes !! thats the difference i think, mine have only been on the bike twice and i can`t remember if it was windy then !!

Actually, the panniers are seldom ever off my Tiger, largely because they seem to provide a bit more stability around lorries.

The Tiger can be irritable in wind, but the bike itself is actually more aerodynamic on its own than it is with a rider in the slipstream.

My final week before retirement involved a lengthy tour of the State of Georgia during a week when we had unusual heat and wind for the time of year. The company truck needed to be in the shop, so I took the Tiger. I encountered wind gusts as high as 50mph crossing the road from open fields in the central part of the state. Traffic signs were flapping on their metal posts like the scene in Close Encounters where Richard Dreyfus was parked in his truck while the alien spaceship passed overhead. However, I quickly found that if I plastered myself to the tank, the bike hardly shook at all from the worst gusts.

That's not a very comfortable way to travel, of course. Given a choice, I prefer to take one of the bikes with a lower profile if it's going to be windy. Even then, it can be a bit unnerving.

Myself, compared to my last bike, I find the Tiger handles wind MUCH better. I had a Broken Motor Works K1200LT, and the whole bike was like one big sail. Crosswinds seem a joy to me now, on a Tiger.

Ponderosa, deep Wales?

I tend to suffer from side-wind more than most, or I moan more, not sure which. I'm pretty tall at 6'4" and find it helps if I get into a full racing crouch. Trouble is, you feel a bit of a 'nana as you're still going pretty slowly.

Luggage always made it much worse on my Thundercat.
