I just bought an '04 Tiger (which included several excessories I would have ordered anyway :-D sweet!). It came without an owner's manual. Is there such a thing?

Mostly I'm looking for all the information that a new bike owner would want - how to check/change fluids, find accessory plugs, get into compartments, etc. As I go over the bike, I'm figuring it all out myself, but I'd rather just be able to look it all up. I can't say how many times I've bought used vehicles and then a year or two later discovered a cool gadget or compartment I'd never noticed before. It would also be nice to know Triumph's recommended maintenance procedures and schedules.

Welcome to the fold, There is an owners Manual so to speak and should be available at your local dealers, as for service intervals they are every 6 and 12000 miles. I have e-mailed you a service schedule by and hope this helps. Any questions I'm sure can be answered on this site so as the saying goes just ASK !!! :-D

Well, thank you very kindly! You can click the "email" link next to my name in the Member's List of triumphrat.net. I haven't reached 10 messages yet, or I'd just PM you back.

One of the other things I want to know (right now) is whether the Tiger comes with an accessory plug, like for a heated vest or gloves. I know there's a spot in the wiring loom for the heated grips, but that one is about to be occupied on my bike. I'd like to know if the factory added another somewhere else. Does the manual mention anything like that?

I was in a dealership today, and they do indeed sell an owner's manual - for $34.95 (US). If anyone has one they're willing to part with, feel free to email me...

Hi ix, not being funny but have you checked under the seat !! you should find 1x set of tools, 1x handbook. 1 good tip is, when you replace the seats make sure you hear a click or the seat will fly off when your traveling down the road !! Not recomended

there is an accessory socket on the left side of the bike just below where your knee would be when riding, its a Hella type plug that fits it.

enjoy your ride !!

Coolant bottle is right hand side of fairing, you can check the levels by shining a torch through it (it says that in the handbook !), oil there's a dipstick - check it after the engine's benn standing 10 minutes (from the handbook also).

Chain slack 35-40 mm vertical movement (although I believe some owners like to ride to 45), tyre pressures 36 front and 42 rear, again some like it softer.

Rear rebound damping standard for lone rider is 6 turns out from fully wound in (that's anticlockwise as far as I can tell). Can somebody confirm that's full turns ? You get a click every half turn that's why I'm asking.

That's all that I've discovered reading through my owners manual for things to do. Adjusting the seat height is a doddle, just look at the framework on the underside of the seat, but I find it hard to engage the seat unit when on it's lowest setting.

Hazard lights - didn't even notice there were any for a cpl of weeks !

Make sure it's vertical, not on the prop stand when you do this.

Thanks, everyone. This is all very useful, and exactly the kind of info I'm looking for.

Are there any tricks to getting the bike on and off the center stand? (Is the center stand even mentioned in the manual? It's not stock...) So far that thing is so much of a PITA that I avoid using it.

Get the bike on a flat surface, standing on the LHS.
Lift it off the prop stand so it's level side to side.
Push down the footpedal on the stand till the legs either side are touching the deck (make sure they're both touching).
Hold the LH bar with your left hand and the side grab handle with your right.
Put your FULL weight on the pedal, gently easing back on the grab handle at the same time.

It'll just roll on (provided you weigh at least 75Kg - 100 is even better :-D ).

The mistake most people make is having it leaning towards them and trying to "lift" it onto the stand.

I think you just hit the nail on the head. I'm around 70kg - on a fat day. :-) I'm tallish (6'/1.82m), but not exactly big.

You described getting the bike on the stand (thanks!); how about getting it off? The only way I've found so far is to stand next to it and begin my Sisyphus act. I'm not tall enough to be able to push the bike off the stand when astride the seat, and the bike won't drive itself off the stand.
