Greetings Gents,

First timer here. Im considering the purchase of a new Tiger, but i have a few unanswered questions. First, I have looked but cant find any information about performance... Things like 1/4 mile times and speed, top end, braking distances, 0-60, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi TommyB - I just the last few months researching for my next bike and i think I pretty much read everything that was ever written on the Triumph Tiger. The only article that referenced performance data I came across was Motorcycle Consumer News (Sept 2002). Here was their readings (2002 model):
Measured Speed...130 mph
0-1/4...12.06 sec.
0-60 mph ... 3.87
0-100 mph 10.60
60-0... 115.9'

I do agree with KuzzinKenny... you need to test drive it... I had the pleasure to drive it this weekend and was fantastic... is much lighter than I thought it would be (considering the 215Kg) and is incredibly smooth... unfortunately I kept it under 5,000 rpm... but I just loved it... :upthumb:

If you are looking for out and out performance then you are looking at the wrong type of bike,

however,

what I can say is the Tiger will easily go fast enough to lose you your license if caught.
In a blast away from the lights it will hold with a Daytona until you reach 100mph + and will then lose out at the top of the range.
All Triumph brakes tend to be good and the Tiger is no different. It aint going to stop on a dime (too big and heavy) but it will stop pretty well and by changing out the pads will do better.

Where it beats other bikes though is in its versatility. It does all things well and none badly

Hi,

I've had my '02 for about a month now and having come off a VFR800 it can feel a little lazy.

But this is down to my new relaxed style of riding, it's so easy to ride this thing within the limits. Every now and then though I wind open the throttle and it's amazing just how quick this thing is, and in any gear. I often find myself, having accelerated as hard as I would on the VFR looking for another gear or two and it's already in top !! Get the engine spinning and this baby will really move.

Best wayI've found to describe the performance characteristics is it's like driving a modern turbo diesel car. Not so quick to get started but once it's on the move the torque will surge you forward with very little movement on the rev counter. Different from a diesel though it'll just keep going if you don't fancy changing gear.

But the torque is what it's all about, you really do need to try one. Use the throttle like you do on a sports bike and you'll terrify yourself, but come away with the biggest grin.

I have to agree with 'djr'

The Tiger is more than capable of getting LEO's attention.

I just recently traded in my 2004 Daytona 955i for a 2005 Tiger 955i. Pretty much the same motor, just tuned and geared differently. The Tiger actually has more torque, but less horsepower. Initial acceleration feels almost the same between the two (due to the riding position, you can stand the Tiger up without even pulling on the bars!), but by the time you hit 80+ the Daytona gets its second wind and pulls off, where the Tiger seems to level out a bit. As I write this I'm having the high-performance exhaust and new ECU map installed on my Tiger. The dealer tells me that I will pick up 8-10 rw hp - that should feel more like the Daytona and give that nice lower, rumbly triple sound that I love so much.

Now I will have the power I love and the ability to go anywhere I want! Best of all worlds, eh?!?

nope!

maybe 3-4! but it will be much better in the mid range as you lose the restrictions for noise/pollution regs.

Umm...slightly OT, but is anyone else bothered to see a graphic from Danasoft above containing their IP address, ISP name, OS version and browser designation?

must admit I dont particularly like it and know a lot of sites banned these due to complaints but my understanding is only you see this.

I tend to like them less becuase of the space they take up when reading through posts
