Right
Tyres - VERY subjective, BUT I only tell it as I find it.
For a dual sport I think that the Tourance is the best available (most tests I've read seem to agree as well) but given my riding is 100% road and I found it nigh on impossible to get the Tourances to heat up well when it was cold, decided to change for a road tyre.
Initially was going to fit Conti Road Attacks (seem to get good right ups) but after waiting about two weeks with no sign of them arriving decided to change tack.(after seeing them in the flesh so to speak think this was a good move if there is any possibility of rain as there is no tread on the sidesof the Contis!)
I could have fitted BT20s but having ridden BT10s before on another bike I didnt like losing a lot of front when the cupping hits (seems to be a Bridgestone thing although Tango says its not affecting him yet). Brodgestones are very good tyres and BT20s are good s[port tourers but like I say I wanted a change.
Speaking to my tyre depot (they do a lot of bikes there and have a specific bike tyre guy!) they suggested the Michelins. Said they were getting great reveiws (since checked and they do, and not just from me), were marginally cheaper than BT20s but a little more expensive than the Contis decided ok lets see. If I dont get on with them I can always change them.
Come the day to have them fitted took a trip to tyre depot (pouring rain - NOT fun on knackered Tourances!! :???: ) Tyres fitted and balanced no problem.
Head back home (still in the rain!) and even though they are not scrubbed in at all think, wow these are pretty handy.
After using them for a few months, all I can say is FANBLOODYTASTIC tyres. 150km/hr cranked over going over a m/way flyover and the overbanding doesnt affect them. Turn in is way quicker, she just wants to flop into the turn, braking is much improved due entirely to the enhanced grip the pure road tyre offers over the compromise. Slightly floaty feel I had with the Tourances is totally gone.
Lifespan is bound to be less than the Tourances but I am prepared to accept that for the better grip/handling/braking.
Others on here have also tried the Pilot roads and came to the exact same conclusion.
Oh yes I find a couple of psi below the standard to be best.
Now if this is banging on, so be it but if they had been *****, I would have banged on about that as well. The Pilot Roads are the first Michelins I have used. I am pretty certain nmow they wont be the last.
