Apologies for starting another helmet thread, but have a small problem - after realising fitting the Autocom kit in a Roof RO10/RO20 helmet was going to be difficult (anyone done this? how did you do it without butchering the whole helmet?) I've started looking at Schuberth helmets, which are actually built to take the Autocom kit. Considering a flippy front thing as I'm wearing glasses anyway, but don't fancy the Caberg due to the IMHO great security design flaw of putting the release button where it's most likely to get hit in an accident.

Problem is I can't find anyone in central Scotland who sell Schuberth's - anyone got any idea?

Cheers guys - Bike Smart is actually listed as an official importer, so knew about them, but will have to check with HG again - I drop by there frequently but haven't seen any Schuberth's so far. Then again, probably just me being blind.

By the way - anyone using the C2 or the Concept? Interested in how you're getting on with them?

Hiya TorqueyT,

I currently use a Roof Diversion R010 which I bought in early 2003 to replace a Schuberth Concept. I had the Concept for about 12 months, but I had to stop using it because it just kept loosening up; it got to the stage where I could practially spin it round my head (well, not really, but you get the idea!). Eventually I decided it had to go, and it's now relegated to the position of "spare lid for pillions with fat heads"

It was otherwise quite a good lid although, in comparison with my Roof, it was very noisy and visibility wasn't as good. That said, the Roof is quieter than a lot of offerings on the market.

I didn't have an Autocom in the days when I was using the Schuberth lid, but one of the selling points when I bought the Roof was that it actually comes with cutouts for earpieces in the polystyrene moulds already - so when I bought an Autocom, I just velcro'd them straight in!

Installing the microphone boom in the Roof was also easier than it first appeared - the cheek pads are removeable (presumably for cleaning) and I ran the microphone behind one of them, and it holds in there quite nicely.

Note, however, that I don't know if this in anyway affects the integrity of the lid (disclaimer, yada yada yada). I imagine it's unlikely, and the operation can be completely reversed with no obvious damage, but you know how manufacturers don't like you to fiddle with critical safety devices, so do so at your own risk

I can post some photos of mine if you like?

Tim.

Hi TT

I have one of them Schuberth concept things. flip front with drop down internal visor dark visor. Following comments.

Great lid, well put together.
Excellent ventilation.
Durable, had it two years now, Good as new.
good aerodynamics (stable)
Noisey as a noisey thing, cant hear nowt but windnoise.

I still quite like the lid but for a helmet supposedly designed in a wind tunnel to reduce noise, err start the tests again. I can live with it cos I use earplugs but Ijust bought an Autocom for the bike so I will let you know how I get on with it once I eventually get round to fitting it.

Hey TT

I tried the flip up one on a few years back in the Hamilton branch of J&S and my mate bought the full face one from there 18 months ago. Best give them a call though and check if they still sell them.

Cheers for lots of good feedback - in doubt now that I'm starting to realise both helmets are doable, but will try them both on again and see how I get on.

ipg - will speak to J&S and see what they do, thanks for the tip.

tcowjww - did the same thing with my current AGV, cheek pads come out and put the boom behind, works fine, comes lose now and then if I'm not careful, but works a treat normally.
