Should have said, bought it om line from a company in Germany who no longer seem to stock them, sorry cant remember the name but they did not list the Shuberths last time I was on their web site, new PC & lost my list of places to go get stuff, very annoying, I will endevour to dig it out for you.

By the way did you ever try out the paint?

Hi All,

I've just been sat reading the latest "Ride" magazine, and if it helps, they've just done a big test to find the "quietest" helmet on the market... 18 different helmets from every manufacturer... the results are as follows (top 5 at least, can't be arsed to type 'em all);

5. Arai Consair
4. Nolan N84
3. Roof R010
2. BMW System 5
1. Schuberth S1

So there ya go, apparently at 90mph the Schuberth helmet is quieter than a lot of the others at 60mph... so they were impressed

how did they actually test them? Does it say?

Bear in mind that those that are quietest tend to have less ventilation

dj they did it with microphones in the helmets and measured decible ratings at various speeds etc, as well as rider feedback etc that tested all helmets... although they did have the sense to say it can also depends on the shape of the riders head and the type of bike they ride etc... but still quite informative

I assume they DID do ALL the tests on the same bike and the same person?

I read that article, and yes djr the data given was from one rider. They tried several different riders on different bikes, but they were getting too many differing reports, doh.
So to show some kind of consistency they decided to use just one rider.
So the test aint conclusive.

Some info about the Schuberth if not yet read in other treaths.

I have a Schuberth Concept. I bought it because it fitted best and wanted to try a flip-up helmet. My non-flip-up nolan was more quiet, so don't buy a flip-up if you want silence.
I noticed the following:
The windnoice is reduced quit a lot by closing the air-inlet in the chin-piece. Don't forget to open it when you ride slowly otherwise the 'famous' anti-mist-coating will start non-working.
The noice is bad because of the bad aerodynamics of the tiger. i notice that the noice is reduced a lot if a move my head just a bit higher. That is with the stock screen. I have a touring screen with a laminar lip. That worked with the Nolan, but everything higher with the Schuberth was worse then just stock. I want to cut the touring screen back to just a little under the stock screen to lower the airflow just that bit. Still haven't got around to do that.
About the anti-fog-coating: I might have a bad visor. It fogs up very fast in cold weather or rain when standing still or riding slowly. It should stay clear but it becomes a kind of blur. First time it happened I was wiping the visor like creazy until I found out it was the inside! I have to take it back to see if I can get some warrenty.
Don't forget your earplugs because you don't want to go faster then 50 km/hour without them.
The stability of the helmet, the fit to my head and the build-in sun-visor are a good plus, but if I was to buy a helmet at this point I would go for a non-flip-up with a pinlock again.

good luck

kind of what I guessed m8

Quiet helmets are ALWAYS going to be a trade off.

You can have quiet or you can have ventillation. I have never come across a helmet (the helmet) that offers both.

My Arai is very far from quiet BUT in winter time it seldom mists to any degree and fitting a visor insert would remove ALL misting IMHO and in the summer it allows a very good flow of air through the helmet.

Maybe not so much of an issue in the UK where the GOOD summer weather amounts to about a day a year but much more important over here where we frequently ride in high temps.

Fit is also massively important, a good fit will be quieter.

Then the bike also plays a big part.

I have ridden a lot of bikes with exactly the same gear on and noise levels vary hugely. So what is good on one bike is not necessarily going to be good on another.

PS - I always wear earplugs

I can verify what all the reports say about the S1. I've had one for about 3 years and it is still an extremely good fit (the padding hasn't compressed at all) and it is definately quiet enough (although I always wear earplugs). I took the standard Screen off my Tiger because I find the Sports Screen much better especially for buffetting on the old head. Although there is wind blast it is definately better that getting your hear battered around because it is consistant pressure and isn't noisy.

So, I will definately get anothe S1 if and when I have to, just one question for manufacturers of helmets in general......

WHY THE HELL DO YOU CHARGE SO MUCH FOR VISORS !!

They are a rip off, no question, you can't tell me these things cost £35 or more to manufacture and market. Having worked in the manufacturing industry I know its a rip off, why do we put up with it !?

Oh*****, getting off subject !!
